Merchants New Video on Demand Service

Postby JamieDaws » Aug 21st, '10, 01:21

I’ve just seen that the guys over at Merchants of Magic have just added an awesome new Streaming Video Service. Sounds slick AND there giving away a free Dee Christopher or Alan Rorrison Download if you try out their service. The streaming vid’s start from £3.95 and the free download is worth up to £18. So spend £3.95 and receive £21.95 worth of magic. Sounds slick to me! AND it means my DVD shelf doesn’t get even more clogged with cases.

I think it sounds pretty sexy: http://www.magicshop.co.uk/magiccompetition.html

The have links for USA customers and UK customers which helps too!

I do love totally impartial reviews of new services. Makes me feel completely comfortable giving them my money knowing that someone wasn't just asked to shamelessly shill for them on an internet forum.

Thanks.

Hehehe

Actually Magicshop/Merchant of magic are top notch with service I don't mind giving them my hard earned cash.

But Sarah I do find Jamie gets very excited over effects especially ones that people he knows have put out.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

Thanks for the mention Jamie! and thanks for the words of support Markdini.

Yep, we are really excited about this new feature. Judging from the number of users trying the service, it looks like a great way for us to bring a load of new content to the site, as well ad breathing life into a load of great routines that have become lost in dusty back catalogs and DVD sets.

I'm with Markdini, MoM are a pretty sound outfit, I've only just started using them and I've been very impressed thus far.

As Markdini says, Jamie does seem to have a tendency to sound overly enthusiastic when it comes to reviews or announcements. It is nice perhaps to read slightly more objective reviews etc. I for one am looking forward to some contributions from you Sarah.

Perhaps someone who's actually tried the Video Streaming Service can give us their thoughts and observations please? Merchant of Magic have supported TM with their advertising for many moons so we reckon they're entitled to a few promotional posts from time to time  !

So how does this work? Is it a download you can keep on you HDD, something you can watch only once, does it expire etc...

I can't see I suggest MoM are anything other than sound? Can you quote me suggesting such a thing?

You are using sarcasm to imply heavily that the review is biased, due to an affiliation between the reviewer and the reviewed. That further implies a lack of ethics on the part of MoM in this case. The quote above should be sufficient proof, do you not think?

EDIT: You might also like to consider the fact that, aside from your one-word post suggesting AdWords, every post you've made so far has been critical. You're casting yourself in a rather negative light, if you want my opinion.

Sounds like a great idea - I don't know why nobody's thought of it before :)

A couple of questions though, if you don't mind me being a tad critical. Any chance of a non-flash version for us flash haters, and is it possible to download a copy of the video for backup? (In case internet connection isn't available/you decide to no longer - or can't - provide the service/the world ends)

streaming

Postby MagicShop » Aug 22nd, '10, 00:41

I think I remember Brad Christian tried streaming when E just started out, but I think people did not like it. The world has moved on a bit now, and people are used to iTunes, Netflix, Hulu Lovefilms etc.

I agree. I don't like Flash either. ( I use an iPad a lot, so it sucks!)
I would like to move it to HTML5 or similar, but that's not possible at the moment :( I will be on the case to get that changed though when possible.

The streams can't be downloaded onto your hard drive. But they are backed up for you and secure.

I think there is a REAL problem coming and Apple knows it already with iTunes. People are running out of disc space. Buy just one TV series from Itunes and its several GB, a movie is a couple of gig. That fills even a 32 GB ipod quickly and a hard drive pretty fast too. As more people get used to downloading content, the old model of storing it on your local machines just does not cut it.

Fast forward a few years from now and backing up the thousands of gig of content the average person will have would be a nightmare for them. That's why storing video in the cloud, makes much more sense if you want to enjoy downloading content.

I think it's the reason Apple are building that HUGE data centre, so they can move iTunes movie/TV over to the cloud and stream it.

ANOTHER STREAMING BONUS FOR YOU

We will be sending out the free bonus downloads on Monday to everyone who used our streaming video service over the promotion.

Through August and September, we will be a choosing some customers who have added a streaming video in their media vault, and as a nice free bonus we will be adding in some free downloads as gifts! Always good to maybe find a nice surprise free gift next time you visit us.

That's good to hear :)

Good point. I take that criticism back :)
