Hi guys,

My experience in magic is actually quite narrow and I'm looking to broaden it out a bit. I have traditionally focused on cabaret magic (due to the nature of the venues and types of nights I work at) but would like to dabble at close up.

Does anyone have any experience of the 8 DVD set by Dave Jones "Beginners Complete Course in Close Up Magic"? Is it worth the £180?

I can't vouch for the actual material on the DVDs, but having seen some of his other products of International Magic, I can definitely say he's an excellent teacher.
I'm pretty sure if yo go into the shop, you can buy each of the dvds on their own and the necessary props.
I'd do that rather than get the whole lot and see how you learn etc.

The book, Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic is quite a bit cheaper.

I'd Second Mark Wilson's too. Its a great grounding for beginners and a good reference for more advanced Magicians. It has quickly become the bible for beginners wanting to learn all types of Magic. Cards, Coins, Silks, Rope, Rubber bands Mental Magic and there is a good section on Cups and Balls. For around £10 you really can't go wrong. I still read through it for ideas.

I'm using the Mark Wilson course with the Magic Club lads at it really is working well. It doesn't belittle them and feels like a proper magic book and not one you would get in a local library.

Most of the tricks are on You Tube (Not exposed, just performed) so you can see what you should end up with.

So based on my experience I would have to second the Mark Wilson comment too.

Another vote for Mark Wilson from me, but I've not seen the video in question either.
