Indeed - but his method is, as I am sure others will agree, far from 'clean' - in fact, it's almost too obvious...

What I think Daryl has tried to do with 3 Fly III is to bring the routine closer to the hands of the beginner.

Versions by Kohler, Kenner, Roth and the finger-twisting Kam and the like seem far too difficult at first - because their techniques are suggestive that they might have six fingers on each hand and a magic flap in their palm.

I have had a look through my 'tomes' after this conversation, because I really would like to start doing coin work again (if nothing else, because it put my hands into great shape for bending peoples minds!)... and the one conclusion I seem to find is that it depends what level of commitment you are prepared to put in.

I know this is a digression, but I though it may be a worthy thing to note that if you are a beginner, it seems unfair that unless you learn a load of sleights - you have to foot the bill for an expensive 'gimmick' set.

However, there are a fair load of variations of Three Fly... so there's plenty of choice.

(although, I still secretly prefer Jay's 'in the hands' coin's across... )

The only 3 fly handling that I know of that does not use extra coins or gimmicked coins can be found on a DVD called Mindbender. There is a coin routine on there by Chad Sanbourne called the Holly Grail Coin routine. It's a production vanish and 3 fly effect that just uses 3 coins.

My favourite 3 fly routine is from unexpected visitor by Doug Brewer which uses the one behind and one ahead principle. Failing that, if you want to try something different try an internation 3 fly. Both Nate Kranzo and Reed McClintock have versions of this (although Nates version is easier though not perhaps better)

By the way if you don't want to pay for the mind bender DVD, Chad did post the Holy Grail Coin Routine on the internet before putting it on DVD. It's harder to learn in print (especially with some of the moves you have to learn) but it's there if you want to check it out.

Hope this helps

CHris Kenner has a version of 3Fly that uses 3 coins, I'm pretty sure. I have the book, but it's at the other house. I'll look in to it.

At any rate, even if it does use four coins, you start and end clean.

Take it for what it's worth.

Greg Wilson performs and then explains a coins across on his On The Spot DVD that is the best version of the effect that I've seen.

It is clean, visual, uses only three coins (that can be borrowed) and can be done anywhere.

There is one tricky move that will require some practice to get smooth, but the end effect looks truly impossible and is worth the work!

I use it ALL the time and it blows them away.

That routine is just a poor version of Snakey's Mr Clean's Coins Across, which IMO is a much better version especially when it comes to making the last coin travel

Is that SANKEY you mean?

I've not seen seen it! However, any version that uses only three coins (that can be borrowed) instead of a secret 4th (or gimmicked) coin has the thumbs up from me.

I'll check it out - thanks.
