how to turn the top card face up unnoticed?

Postby janitso » Aug 20th, '10, 10:54

Okay so what would be the best way to turn the top card on the deck face up to load a card from the table on it for DL change? Ive never really needed to do that before but if there is a great way to do this id love to know how? Or where I could learn this? In the end of a routine on the table Id like to finish by transforming a card on the table to another card on top of the deck with DL. Ive seen Oz Pearlman do this in a ACR but for some reason im really lost with this one. Dunno what would be the easiest way to do this. I also find everything so differenct when you are doing tricks on the table instead of standing up. any advice would b appreciated?

You just turn it over when they are not looking ... no great mystery.

The thing you have to do however,is making sure that they are not looking at the deck

Thats the fun part :)

Drop your hand to the side in a natural resting position and use your leg to help you turn it over. Done on the off beat (like the card being signed) nobody will ever suspect a thing

I was just about to say "pants leg reversal"

Something to think about though, does it need to be the top card? Could be a lot easier if you wanted to swap it for the bottom card. bit easier to load that double.

Custom R&S decks made to specification - PM me for details

You've already mentioned that you've seen Oz do it in his ACR routine - if you've got, "born to perform" , by Oz Pearlman - it's explained it quite well in there.

It's basically how Mark explains it:

Misdirection, it is wonderful. Find a dvd of Albert Goshman in performance, sit back and watch. The misdirection is incredible.

There's quite a few reversals in Royal Road to Card Magic. Including the one where you use your leg to assist in turning the card over.

I like the 'Braue Reversal'. But in this case you'd be required to turn over the whole deck afterwards.

Michael Ammar does it as he neck ties the deck when doing an ACR on one of his Easy to master DVDs. Easy.

Palm the card on the bottom of the deck sometime before and then put that hand onto the top of the deck at a convenient point. The card on top of the deck will then be face up.

Seriously, just turn it over while saying something and looking into their eyes... not around the eyes... you get the idea :D , The difficult part is replacing their card and hiding the deck without it looking like the most awkward thing imaginable.

I sometimes turn the top card over using a double undercut. Works well for me.

Yeah i'd go with the leg. Although, if there's no need to see the face of the other card you could just have a double backer on the top thus not flashing any faces.
