Ok, so my first set of restaurants officially did not get me any work. Which is fine, I didn't really expect any. (life sucks) But now I must try again and this time I want to improve my chances.

The best "interview" I had last time was when I walked into Loch Fyne, asked for the Main Manager, who's name I knew, and I asked him to sit down and we chatted for about 20 minutes.

How can I ensure I get good "interviews" like that again? I have a list of places that may be suitable, but theres only so many "shots" I have, and I want my odds to be good

You can't. Do what you did with the Loch Fyne as that went well.

Sometimes you have to understand that some people are cut out to be a performer while others are not! Make of that what you want!

Harsh but fair advice there.

If you've got a good "interview" once, just repeat what you did to get that; you're the mentalist here.... manipulate the manager!

Grow a thick skin, realise that some folks just don't like magic, be perserverant and, above all, be nice to the people you're talking to.

Sometimes, it's hard to understand why the people you're talking to aren't falling over themselves to offer you work - don't they know how much it means to you and how hard you've practiced??

No, they don't and, moreover, they don't care!

No matter - move on to the next spot.

Try and few pubs when it's slightly busier and just mingle with the punters. Take a few minutes to gauge them and see if you you think a group might appreciate some magic. If you think so, give them your best routine (the shorter, the better) - if they like it, ask one of them to tell the manager!!! Oh, I'd also suggest not using mentalism as an ice-breaker... try a quick, visual, self-working card trick that will prove your credentials as a magician; then the crowd might be more willing to give you some time to perform a more in-depth mental feat!

Basically, try everything and anything - but don't get disheartened and don't give up!
