Silk advice

Postby Tom Lauten » Sep 1st, '10, 07:23

Hi Folks,

I am looking to include a silk colour change effect for a light weight comedy set I am putting together for performing in hospital wards. I would like to do a simple and tidy half dyed silk routine (or very similar) but there is a staggering array of dye tubes, chango tubes, simplex tubes, silk balls etc. etc. etc. available.

Does anyone have any solid recommendations for a simple, tidy and top quality set up that is "good to go" out of the box that offers fairly simple handling and includes good equipment?

Does anyone have a very good set up they don't use that they would like to trade for some top tricks (I have a STAGGERING list of items to swap)?

If we can hit that bullseye then the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards... Checkmate!

I've used the Palmo from http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/acatalog/Accessories.html it's nice and simple. I've never used any other tubes or balls but I'd guess there's not all that much to choose between them.

that's a cross between the Palmo, and the standard tube.
:)

Palmo, has the advantage of teh larger load, but due to it's shape, can be handled like the traditional Hank Ball..( which cards for magic also sell)

I bought mine from Duane Laflin, and he taught me how to use it.
He complimented me on my palming skills too. Which means a lot, comming from somebody like Duane. :)

Duane is my all-time silk magic hero. He was the first lecturer I ever saw in magic and blew me away with just a silk & TT routine.

How/where did you meet him Dale ?

Thanks folks.

Not sure of the purpose of the "tape" that some do and don't have. Will that mean much to me in a colour change/half dyed routine?

What do people think of where to get the best routine (ideally as a one-off purchase as opposed to a full book or DVD for a single trick)?

Top secret sell Billy McCombs (authorised) Half Dyed Silk routine with (magnetic? :? ) gimmicks...any idea what that's about?

There seem to be versions with and without ditches... any benefits or drawbacks?

If we can hit that bullseye then the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards... Checkmate!

the tape is there to stop you from pushing the silk right through the tube.
As Tubes tend to be shorter than most index fingers, its quite possible to do this.
However, slightly longer tubes dont need the tape.

I see...thanks for that. Sounds like the Palmo is a good choice.

Now for the silks and routine.
