Bad Malware Warning.

Postby Jing » Oct 2nd, '10, 12:02

So I spent about five days clearing my computer of a nasty malware infection.
It flashed up on my screen as 'AntiMalware Doctor' and told me I had 27 infections, alongside some high pressure techniques to get me to sign up, a lot of my other programs, internet etc... wouldn't work either and were 'infected' so it says.

The 'AntiMalware Doctor' is the infection.

I managed to clear it all now I think, so this is just a warning that if anyone gets this on their computer, the 'AntiMalware Doctor' program is malware itself, and it is just a scam to get you to put your details on their pay site - Do NOT put your details in there.

Find another computer and figure out how to clear it...
boot into safe mode,
stop processes tree,
scan with several anti spyware and anti malware programs.

It's a malicious piece of malware, trojan horse, bad bad bad
so just be careful, ok :)

Ah. I suspect one of my laptops may have had the same thing as well, called spyware doctor. You see, I have the same number of infections as you-27. And AVG says I have ONE!

Probably lots of pseudonyms - when I was deleting registry entries, they were different names to what other people had told me to delete, but my scanning software said it was malicious, so the fact that they change the names around doesn't surprise me.

It's a horrible thing, when you think what you have on your computer, photos, music, important files etc...
Baaaad people

What is it meant to be doing? Mine just sits there and makes irritating noises every once in a while...

You want to delete it, as it may have other malware attached to it, worms (which genuinely infect other files) or tracking cookies (which track what you do online).

I use superANTISPYWARE and SpyBot Search and Destroy to remove it - both ran in safe mode.

Ok, thanks. I think it would have been deleted malware or not though, as a picture of a hand coming out of a laptop can only be popped up onto the screen so many times before I get annoyed

There's also a nasty running about that's disguised as a member's Pole that looks like something from Facebook or MySpace... I found that yesterday in my filters.

Even if you have a good up to date virus scanner installed it is still worth running Housecall every once in awhile.

That way if your installed scanner is infected housecall can identify it.
