just to say its a great effect but ive worked it out that you can probaly make your own for cheaper.... has any-one tried or have made there own raven?

I'm sure that many have. But why not support the creator, and give him or her their due?

The Raven is not an effect. It's a tool.

If you were paying for materials alone of building a homemade device and comparing the cost to that of buying The Raven new at retail then, yes, you would save money. As is the case with just about everything.

If you are going to do a cost analysis, be sure to include the value of square inch drawer space as that's where the majority of Ravens seem to end up.

I would imagine that you could only make one because you've already bought one. I know there's a lot of work that goes into finessing an invention or product of any kind. Anything you save in ££ by making a DIY version would most likely be outstripped by the time you spend faffing with it :)
