I'd concur with this. It's much easier for an angency to put a face into a vacancy than a name. If that makes sense.

This is a tough time Dale, believe me I have faced it often enough.

You are talking very positively and that is really good. Whilst you are still hanging on for the last days it is difficult to see things clearly or to be able to make a proper plan for the future.

My own experience of applying for jobs over the internet seems to be like yours. I couldn't tell you how many hundreds of jobs I applied for last time I was redundant. I had decided that if I hit the send button often enough surely a few must bring a return.

Whilst I cannot remember how many applications I sent I do remember the six that bothered to reply - all be it with rejcections.

Internet recruitment is soulless and mean minded. Advertisers don't feel a need to even reply to applicants, it is a gutless way for HR departments to trawl the available catch without having to get their hands dirty with rejection letters.

Agencies are not a whole hell of a lot better, but at least with an agency you can keep on landing on their doorstep to remind them that you are still there.

Despite us being in such an electronic age I still find that the Appointments pages of local and national newspapers to be the best route to making a formal application and getting a reply. And as such has been the only way I have ever got jobs.

Good luck with it Dale, keep us informed about how things are going and if you can get in to this forum you will always get a cheery supportive response!

I'm hijacking some of the good thoughts for Dale... We got our redundancy notice today.... I knew it was coming (what with being psychic) but genuinely didn't see it happening til at least this time next year. Ho hum!

Will probably be the kick up the bum I need to get out of a company where I can't grow in the direction I want to anyways! Cheers!

The didn't see it coming feeling is a shocker.

I was sitting in my office one Friday morning, the MD put his head round the door and asked me to pop in to his office. I walked in and the HR manager was there, and I still didn't see the train coming down the track.

Then it hit me ... need to save some money ... position in danger of redundancy ... and then its all over. Took along time to totally sink in with me.

well, one week in.

I may have an interview next week, for a company around the corner.. but also...

1how crazy is this.my brother phoned me up from the pub at half 1 last night, he'd been talking to somebody i know through am dram..

Anyways, He has just bought a theatre set hire company up north .

And he wants me to run it.

its a tough call, because I would be in charge for the first 3 years, until he took early retirement from his day job. but i can forsee a few issues, as naturaly i will need a salery comming in, and it has to be sucessful, because it would effectvly take me out of the job market for 3 years...

He's wanting to move the company down here , as there is a lack of such companys in the south, that cater to Amateur companys.

I should have a chat with him at sometime soon.
If i do it, i do have a few extra income ideas, such as Illusion hire, and realy nice santa grottos, halloween themed effects, ect.

old thread... but i thought it worth posting.

Should find out wether ive got a job tomorow.. and if i have i start monday.
Its 90% sure.. But,imnot holding my breath, because these things go wrong.

what is good, should i get it,is its just round the corner, and regular hours..no over time, no late nights, ect.. which means I can plan, and i can attend events again.. BUT lets see what happens in the next day or so eh?.... :)

keep em crossed.

Glad to hear this Dale.

The length of time it has taken for you to get this far is more than disconcerting, it makes me grateful to have retained my job!
