I don't think this is piracy. Looks more like semi-randomly generated content to hook in web searches.

unless yours is highlighted with a link then don't worry looks like a screen dump from a search spider, the links probably end up on sites that infect your computer so havant clicked any. :)

Yes, it's some sort of search engine catcher. Definitely not a file-sharing site.

The "Soothsayer's Envelope" line doesn't even have a link of its own, so that should be a relief!

Like Discoman, I have great suspicion of the links and am not about to click on any of them.

Phew, that's a relief then. Thanks all of you, although I am not all that sure that I'm happy with having my book on something that sounds as dodgy as that. :?

Kenton Knepper just introduced me to this site, you may want to look into it;

I guess they know how to get pirated material pulled and properly "dealt with"... I've yet to look into it but it might be worth a shot.

Another thing, though it's a pain in the royal petutti, is to hand print your books one by one vs. eBook. This will allow you to encode them and know from which batch and order the pirated book came from and thus, you can target the abuser. Rick Maue and I both have systems that are similar to this on some of the more higher priced (and prized) stuff we've put out. I know of at least three others that use a version of my system in some of their limited release material and it does catch the thieves!

To put your mind further at rest, I've had a canter through the torrent/sharing sites that I know of (including the major torrent search engines), and can't find your book on them.

Thanks so much Robbie, that's good to know. :D I wouldn't have the first clue where to start checking things like that.

Google: "name of your book" torrent

Unfortunately it's that easy, although there may be some more underground sites that do not appear on Google.

I am sure I read on a thread somewhere on here the idea of watermarking each buyers credit card details in to any copy they purchased, I think this is a great idea especially now I have an eReader as unfortunately most eBooks produced by magicians have to come with passwords and security that make it impossible to view on my reader. Might have to get a Kindle (although I am not sure if they work with passworded pdf's either). :(

It's a scrapper site. What some black hat (basically, crooks) do is have programs that automatically go through web forums, copying the text. They then use a computer program to take the text and reorganise it into new text, all focused around some keyword (trick, in this case). The links point to other sites.

The reason crooks do this is that search engines such as google select sites depending on how many other sites link to them. By using this kind of technology, you can get your web site to appear higher in the ratings when someone types in your phrase. More people visiting your site selling magic tricks means you make more money.
