Did a little show last weekend as a result of a complete farce of a talent competition (See this thread if you're remotely interested).

Anyways, it's not the best performance ever, hell it's not even my best performance ever but it's the first I've managed to get on video so thought I'd share it with you wolves to rip apart ;)

One effect out of the five, a nice and simple book test:

Standing up on a stage like that isn't really what I want to do, so I'm not being overly harsh on myself though I've taken a lot away from the show, not least the importance of scripting, I really need to work on that more.

Definitely invest in a cheap lapel or headmike!

You didn't look comfortable on stage; you looked rushed to get off if anything. The effect you have works, and the audience seemed to enjoy it. I think it is your overall presence you need to work on.

I know I'm not perfect, but I love stage performing; and trust me, having your hands free makes a massive difference!

The lapel thing is a good idea, you can get fairly decent ones of eBay for around £10. Strange, you didn't look nervous, did feel a bit rushed though, they enjoyed it nonetheless. Fair play for getting out there though!

No you cant! You need the box as well - and that is where the expense comes in! ;)

I have one that cost me £100, and it is pretty crappy, though for a half decent one for the long term you are looking at a minimum £200 if not a bit more - for a headmike anyways. I'm actually thinking of selling mine for now and getting a more expensive model! I'm doing stage a lot more now to warrant its worth

I would say it was a difficult performance for you because of the annoying kids making too much noise in the audience?

Saying that your body language did scream nerves. Too much pacing back and forth I'm afraid. I would just look at practising looking relaxed and confident on stage.

But you got up there and got the effect right so several hoozahs all round :)

Thanks guys,

The whole performance wasn't 'me' really, everything I'm working towards is more intimate and bizarre but these guys asked for a quick bit of 'Derren Brown type stuff'. It's rushed because it's not scripted, my fault entirely. The pacing up and down isn't nerves especially, it's just what I do, I spend alot of time delivering coaching sessions to groups and pacing around the venue, around the attendees is what I do, I think that just translated onto the stage by pacing back and forth seemingly unnatural.

The head mic is definitely a good idea for stage, but as I said, stage really isn't my aim so might take yours off your hands Beardy

The audience was, quite frankly, a nightmare. They were a bunch of families there to see cheerleader troupes and pre-teen dancers and singers... mentalism wasn't on the agenda for them! I think Beardy has a point about wanting to get off stage, I wasn't entirely comfortable being aware that the audience weren't that interested. I suspect I'd be a lot happier with a more willing audience, who knows. I know it's not a stage fright thing, I've acted on stage plenty without feeling uncomfortable, safe in the knowledge that the audience are there to see acting.

That all said and done, I enjoyed it for the sake of experience, the biggest venue I've performed at to date and got two bookings off the back of it, more like the kind of thing I like to do as well.

Hi there sir..
I've had the experience of playing to an audience that weren't really into it and I can feel your discomfort. The best thing I can suggest is to try and remain calm and get through your performance... Your effects are good and future audiences can only be better.

Nice work
