For anyone who has taken the time to acquire the necessary props for this beautiful routine I humbly offer the following performance tips:
1) Glue the ring that goes over the 'winder' so that it is flush with the watch. This will prevent any tell-tale 'clinking sounds, and it prevent the ring from getting on the way of closing the watch.
2) From my experience, specs tend to pick an hour between 4 and 9 'o' clock. For this reason, I initially set the watch at the 6 'o' clock position. This makes it quicker to adjust the watch to the correct time.
3) Carefully plan your actions during the initial selection of the card (whilst your back is turned) so that your hands *only* move when the spec is carrying out your directions (find your card, shuffle the cards, etc)
4) I have found the best way to mark the 'Time Piece' card is edge-work. The slightest work is needed in order for the mark to be visible on a black close-up pad.
For anyone who has glossed over this routine (it's in Cardshark) I urge you to try it. I have been able to obtain a pocket watch (from THAT auction website) for as little as 99c.
