Hey, I'm a newbie and

Postby A_j » Oct 31st, '10, 21:59

I'm 19, student at an old traditional university in UK. Male.

A bit about me:

I had a speech problem all my life. I spoke my first word when I was 5.
4 years ago, I fell ill and could not string sentences together. I nearly died on many occasions due to this illness.

I have now recovered and I want to master the art of speech, something that I have suffered with throughout my life.

For me to get some great jobs after I graduate, I need a good verbal reasoning score on aptitude tests. My mathematical and abstract reasoning is very high, but my verbal reasoning is extremely low, EXTREMELY low.

I have started to speak more fluently now, almost the same as a normal person.

I used to be a bad looking person but it appears that I am good looking nowadays, but my confidence is extremely low. I want to be able to talk to people and obv females, with confidence.

Hi AJ, welcome to TM!. Great to hear things are on the up!.

Don't worry about confidence, Magic provides bucket loads, just keep asking yourself the question 'How many people can do this!?' and you'll always have more than enough confidence.

Again, Welcome to TM!

Confidence is a huge part of magic and something that I am sure most of us have to deal with - so you will definitely have your work cut out for you in that aspect, more so than most, however everytime you do perform to someone it will get easier, it may not seem so at first and it certainly won't be a quick process but I promise you if you keep at it it will help.

Learn and practice the magic well because the last thing you want to do is struggle with what you are doing, this way when performing you can concentrate more on performing and interacting with people than the mechanics of what has to be done.

Good luck...

Hiya AJ,

I think that any performing art is great for building confidence but it is something that you need to work on before you can perform magic.

I think of myself as quite a confident person but still get terrible nerves before a performance and really have to force myself to get started.

Have you thought about drama societies? That way you can work on your speaking and performance confidence is a group where you'll have support rather than magic where you'll be on your own? Once you've built up that confidence you'll find your magic far easier too. :D
