Favourite omnideck effect

Postby lukeclough » Nov 6th, '10, 19:24

Hi guys, I've been toying with few different effects using an omnideck as the closer.... and was wondering.... what is your favourite trick using an omnideck and any reference points would be appreciated?

I do it as a completely stand alone effect, I think its strong enough to do it on its own, and I get some great reactions from it.

Shawn Farquhar has a great teaching on the deck switch, and so does Mark James on his Supercharged Classics DVD 1

cheers mark, funnily enough I've ordered supercharged classics last week, so hopefully watch it in the next few days when it arrives. I'll check out Shawn Farquhar too

The best Omni deck is produced by Palmer Magic (I think, ill check it later and confirm). They genuinely look like the edge of a deck, and feel like it too. Some Omni Decks are pretty crummy quality. I have 2 of the Palmer Magic ones, and they have lasted a couple of years and still look great, I do think though I will be replacing them soon though, but I use it at every table, and they still look great.

I bought Farquar's Omni Deck (slightly smaller apparently for ease of double lifting) from him at Blackpool a few years ago & for 18 months did nothing with it. About 3 months ago I decided to put together a 3 card, 3 phase routine from odds & sods which I had lying around my head from various dvds.

I have 3 cards signed & lost in the deck. The first card is found via an elastic band wrapped around the deck, the band disappears, reappearing wrapped around a single card (card number 1). Card 2 is then shown to have been under the card box on the table. The deck is then held by the participant & all but their card has changed to a plastic block. It came about from Tom Mullica/Derren Brown cards under box, an elastic band effect from a guy at Blackpool this year (name has eluded me, think he has a beard on the dvd).

I call it Band, Box, Block & has got some great reactions since trial running it at a few gigs this month.

Omni deck can be good as a stand alone effect but HAS to be the final thing you do for a while with cards, otherwise you're left having to swap it back into a normal deck, Or open a brand new one.

Omni - Palmer vs Farquhar

Postby shawnfarquhar » Nov 9th, '10, 21:10

Hi Guys,

I noticed the topic and just wanted to make it clear that Palmer Magic and myself, Shawn Farquhar, are using the same block. I had Palmer making mine to my dimensions and in January of 2011 I will be the new owner of Palmer Magic ...

Glad you all like the quality product. It was the invention of Jerry Andrus and Danny Korem and I am honoured to be allowed to continue their legacy by offering this great effect with a quality prop.

I like this effect. I have been doing 'solid deception' for some time. I have been working on a way to ring this Omni deck in and extend the effect, first I tough of a deck switch using a deck shell.

Sometimes when doing 'solid deception' I used 'Ultra Smoke 2000' and at the end of the effect pressed on the deck and made smoke appear, telling them I had 'fused' the deck with magic. This always went down well and gave some 'sparkle' to an already good effect.
I may now do Solid deception, then switch the Omni deck do the 'Ultra Smoke' and reveal it has fused/melted into glass?
