whatever we want to call it, be it a convention, a meeting or anything else that crops up, a get together sounds like a fine place to start.

My view is that if I were paying good money to go to a magic convention elsewhere then I would want to concentrate as much of my time and energy to getting the most for what I have paid for. Therefore, a fringe meeting may not be a good approach for some.

However, If we decided to meet up for a day somewhere near to the middle then I think that this is maybe a better start. It will sort out who is and isn't committed. I would suspect that I could pick up a few people en-route and share petrol costs etc.

So how do we get the ball rolling? I'm more than happy to give support so if you're serious then PM me.

me too.... we need to see the results of the poll I guess and then start looking for a venue in that region. Meanwhile we could start emailing dealers about either havin a stall or providing stuff for it. We could also ask what dates they are NOT available and gauge their interest given the member base we have.

maybe rather than having a dealer come prehaps we would do better if we asked for lots for a charity auction in a magical theme so maybe gift vouchers and the like? or ask if well could trade a prize for the winner of the Talkmagic first annual close up compitition for it being called the Davenports trophy (for example!!)??

what do you lot think i guess its just me but i think that they are more likely to agree to some thing like that!! also once we have one on board we can use that to er impress the other dealers (no not blackmail honest!!)

i would like to also say i will happily help arrange this event be it up northish (please not over 9 hours away from london!!)

would it be an idea to start up a seperate room in the forum where the organising committie can talk easier??

I have just come across this post and have to admit that a one day convention somewhere in the Midlands isn’t a bad idea.

As a magic dealer based in the Midlands finding a dealer and possibly a couple more wouldn’t be a problem. Also finding a couple of Magicians to lecture wouldn’t be a problem either (Full time professional magicians).

Basically the idea would be a combined Talk Magic magic meet with more people attending from the surrounding areas. (easily done as we have access to 2 societies in the area, plus many more people that are not members of talk magic. Finding a place to stage the event wouldn’t be a problem either.

Please let me know on your thoughts.

If we go back to the start we will see I've personally favoured the midlands. Whereabouts are you Gochos and what sort of venue are you talking about.

Guys I'm serious about this, I like you lot and we all like each other, whilst some may prefer to remain anonymous it would be good for us all to meet and share our knowledge.

 Who is interested in forming a development committee for this so we can actually get something organised?

Jordan

I'm happy to invest some time in this project and it would be nice to prove some of the sceptics wrong. Any others?

What we need to find out is whether anyone has any direct experience of putting together an event, successful or not?

I propose that we need an odd number of people between 6 and 8 (subtle force here  ) to form a committee and thereafter, depending on the response we can have sub committees to look after particular areas. I suggest that we put a response time of 1st June for anyone to register their interest as a committee member and / or helper outer.

At this point, those who have put themselves foreward will be contacted and roles agreed upon (ballot?). We can then arrange things from this point onwards. Anyone disagree or have other suggestions?

So far, (apart from myself) we have interest from:

Jordan C
magicdiscoman
Pcwizme
Gochos The Greek
Vladrac
Magic Mark

If I've added you in and you've had a rethink, or I've missed you off this list then let me know and I'll add take you off / add you on etc.

I'm happy to gather names up to the point where a committee is formed.
