Postby Paul Gordon » Nov 15th, '10, 13:25

IPSWICH magicians note: Due to illness, Lee Smith can't make his lecture tonight (Monday 15th Nov.) but Paul Gordon will be in his place instead. He has all NEW stuff to show and teach you. If you want to attend, see http://www.ipswichmagicalsociety.co.uk/abocontact.htm

You beat me to it Paul - thank you for stepping in at the last minute (again).

Obviously I hope Lee gets better soon, and we will definitely be rescheduling his lecture next year, meanwhile it will be great to see you lecturing back at Ipswich, and judging by your popularity at the convention a few weeks back we are all in for a real treat.

If anyone is close by and fancy coming along you will be more than welcome.

Thanks Simon. Yes, we all wish Lee the best of health. As for tonight...

I promise you all a very fast-paced jam-packed lecture of strong doable card stuff. And, special offers on my books/tricks/dvds...

Best, Paul Gordon

It starts at 7:30

You don't need to be a member - although there will be a £5 charge if you are not

It would be great to see you there if you can make it.

Google says it's a 2 hour trip so will depend on whether my newborn is settled in time, if not I will keep my eyes peeled for future events.

For all it's transport links, Peterborough really does feel in the "rse end of nowhere when it comes to magic sometimes!

I had GREAT time last night in Ipswich. The emails (since) have been very warm and congratulatory. That's nice. It's a lovely club...well organised and fun members.

Thanks lads, Paul Gordon
(Again, best wishes to Lee Smith)

Thanks for doing this at such short notice Paul.

As expected the lecture was a lot of fun, and judging by the chit chat in the pub afterwards enjoyed by all members and not just me.

Of course having seen one of Pauls lectures several years ago I new it would be good, but our younger members epecially loved everything he showed us and even the working professionals went home with something useful.

Paul's a fun guy and he encourages us all to get in close and offer feedback throughout, which made us all feel part of the lecture rather than being lectured at which happens more often than it should.

For a lecture that was all cards (Paul makes no apologies for being a cardician), it was always a possibility that it could alienate some people, after all not everyone likes card tricks, but talking to the members afterwards in the pub it most certainly did not.

I put this down to two things.

One is the fact that at the very least Paul was showing us some wonderfully entertaining magic, so even those that wouldn't perform any of the effects were at the very least entertained, and secondly most of the effects were relatively simple to do (self working? perhaps some), so I think that people that were normally put off by card tricks being too difficult were very encouraged to give it a go.

Certainly there were a lot of decks out in the pub with people going back through some of Pauls ideas.

A great success (and it makes me look good as the one who booked him), so certainly I would be happy to recommend Paul's lecture to any magic society

Those are VERY kind - and appreciated - words, Simon. Thank you. I'm glad the boys had fun.

Cheers, Paul
