I'm actually stumped by this.
3 decks of cards and my copy of Royal Road are nowhere to be found. I didn't think I'd improved enough to pull off something like that.

If anyone tries to pull a coin or something out of thin air and instead gets RRTCM, an ID, a Si Stebbins stack deck and a normal pack of bikes, please get in touch.

Cheers.

The last time I lost a book, it was Tomo's Naked Mentalism and I found it on the roof of my car :? Still can't figure that one out, I think one of my fairies decided to play a trick on me. None of them would own up to it though.

*magical movement*
...and... they are back.

I'd completely given up on finding them here and then found them. They are somewhere I would have left them, but I'm shocked at how good my cover move must have been for me to not realise I was putting them there in the first place.

I've dematerialised a duplicate booklet I'd offered to another TM member. Weeks later, and I still don't know how I did it (or where it is).

My cats have a tendency to disappear and then appear out of nowhere. I'll end up checking in the closet, under the bed, and everywhere else. Then all of a sudden One of them will just walk out like it was in cloaked in predator mode.

I've also lost a bunch of things, only to later find it in the place I looked for it like 9x.

When doing DIY and stuff like that I can put the hammer down and two minutes later it's gone, only to be found somewhere else where I'm quite sure I haven't been. In 'The Bishop's Wife' film (1947), the angel Dudley (Cary Grant) refers to this as an Angel trick where they surreptitiously move stuff around just to amuse themselves... I think he was right.... :?

I lose stuff SO often... but I can "call" to my possessions, and they usually come running. The drawback is that I can only call my own things, so if Col mislays something I'm not much help.

There's a brilliant film, "The Zero Effect", with Bill Pullman and Ben Stiller, where Bill Pullman plays a modern day Sherlock Holmes-a-like. There's a great scene where he describes his method of hunting for and finding mislaid objects and hidden clues:

Now, a few words on looking for things. When you go looking for something specific, your chances of finding it are very bad. Because of all the things in the world, you're only looking for one of them. When you go looking for anything at all, your chances of finding it are very good. Because of all the things in the world, you're sure to find some of them.

I like that one, flashman. It certainly has the ring of truth to it too.

Mandrake - I'm a sod for that. I've lost whole parts in a clean workspace before.

Jim - sorry, that is far too sensible. It's clearly magic. ;)

My father had a good method for hunting mislaid objects: ALWAYS use a flashlight, even if you think there's already plenty of light where you're looking. The beam will focus your attention, if nothing else. There's also the chance of it catching the object at an unusual angle and making it flash or stand out.

Over 90% of all mislaid objects are within a yard (or metre, if you prefer) of where they were last seen. And most of these are within a foot. So always start from that point.

Another tip when looking for smaller objects which may have just dropped to the floor, get down and put your cheek to the ground so you're looking along the floor at the lowest possible angle. many objects which can't be seen easily when standing are soooooo obvious when you get down to their level... a bit like people, really.....

I'm no expert in psychology but apparently you already know where the missing items are... it is your sub-conscious which, for some reason, does not want you to know.

Sit down and analyse why you DONT want to find the missing items. Admit to yourself that, for example, that you rely too much on that book or you need to try more impromptu magic rather than set pieces from a book.. etc, etc.

Once you know the reason why you are blocking yourself from finding the items, or once you admit to certain failings, then you will be able to lift the mental blockers and go straight to the missing items.

Well OK its a theory I read somewhere, but let me know if it works.

Doesn't always work. I've lost my wallet, My cell phone and sometimes the remote to the TV. If we go by your method.. My Sub conscious doesn't want me to have money, a phone or a TV remote.
