audition

Postby magicman98 » Dec 3rd, '10, 00:58

i auditioned on thurs and i felt it went allright they smiled at some of my tricks. first i got asked a few questions kind of interview style.

The last question they asked me was a question i get asked a lot is how long have you been doing card tricks. which is good.

Is that a good sign? :D

Congratulations on the audition. :)
Quite apart from my feelings about the show (and you know well enough what I think of BGT ;)) I'm glad you're happy about it.

I don't know whether being asked how long is a good sign or not; it could be that they think you were a bit naff and are hoping you've been doing it for ages so they can have a laugh about it; or they could have thought you were great and are genuinely interested.

How did you feel about it all? nerves? Steady hands? Confident speaking?

I felt it went allright. my nerves werent to bad becuase i did a hand warm up before and i wanted to give it my all.

my speaking i felt was confident i dident have a crokey voice which you sometimes get when your really nervous.

i went into a holding room then i rehearsed a tiny bit but i dident get much time but i showed a kid one of my tricks. which is something that ive not really done before so that made me feel more confident and ready. he was amazed at my shuffling skill. like how did you do that.

then i got called up to go into a room i was the first one up. then i walked into the room confidently and they asked me what my name was and a couple of other questions. then i got told to stand on an x. x marks the spot. maybe thats the lucky spot or maybe not.

then thay said are you ready. and i said yes and thay said good luck.

i said first i want to warm my hands up a bit to get me ready then i said check this out and i went into a freak routine by will houston and they smiled and that got a good reaction. then i siad well what i really came here for was a bit of card magic. then i said well get rid of the box on the floor and then i said im just gonna give this pack a quick shuffle and i done a xcm shuffle mixed with a kind of breakdancing move which worked really well that also got a smile.

then i made the 4 aces appear from a spread in my other hand and i said im gonna place these aces in the middle of pack like this and im gonna place this ace of spades in my pocket just so that no one can see it and no one can get to it. then i took four random cards of the bottom of the pack and i held them in my right hand and said ill do this in slow motion and i kind of did an arm wave move and fanned them out to reveal the 3 aces. then i said what if i could make these 3 aces vanish from my hand and appear in my pocket. then i said this time ill do it a bit slower so you can see. then i fanned them out to show that they had vanished. well and trully gone.

one of them mentioned that i may be using duplicates but when i turned the cards over they must have been wrong they were randon cards with normal backs nothing to see and said oh and was probally thinking "oh so he's not using duplicates" i dont know thats just a thought.

then i said in my pocket i have the ace of spades and finally the ace of hearts, the ace of clubs and the ace of diamonds.

they gave a big smile for that and said that was brilliant well done.

then i made my exit and said thank you. :D :D :D

Well done, and to all the naysayers - I read today that Cowell is quitting the next BGT and being replaced by...David Hasselhoff.

One source of many: http://itn.co.uk/4d2481f7a9af0b8add3c39082eccc493.html

Speculation on The Hoff's appreciation (or not) of card magic may now begin in earnest: go!

Congrats. A lots of magicians dislike BGT (with good reason) but I couldn't have done what you did. I would have had a very squeaky bum indeed so well done on getting up there.

Starving Stu - Quite right. I certainly don't like it, and it's actually nothing to do with magic - but that thread was locked. :P
Quite right that it takes some guts to go in for an audition though.

Jram - I predict he'll be like the guy (usually) who stares, jaw-on-floor, and makes loads of excited noise when he sees any sort of magic trick. :P

That's good. :)

Sounds a bit "Dynamo". Half of me wants to talk about originality, and the other half of me acknowledges a previous BGT winner who won with an almost entirely ripped-off performance.

then i made my exit and said thank you. :D :D :D

I'd have thought doing it the other way around would be better. ;)

I just spoke to someone I know who's related to a BGT entrant from last year - apparently they had their audition around about now and found out the result some time not long before Christmas. Dunno if it'll be the same this time around, but maybe.

Well done MagicMan and good luck!

My audition wasn't bad but wasn't my best performance ever by a long way. I had it in my head that there would be three judges so my routine was geared u around that, when I got in there and saw only one I was left a little on the back foot. Still, what I did went well enough but just felt a little average to me and I had the impression from the judge that she'd have like to have seen some more. Just have to wait and see what comes of it all.

The anoying thing was that my best performance of the day by far was just outside the audition room door for some of the staff. I got some brilliant mental imagery going and supurb reactions, such a shame that the judge didn't see that one.

hi dirty davey

what sort of tricks did you do?

i also did some tricks outside of the room to some teenagers they asked me how i got on and asked what i did and i showed them a card trick.

they seemed to like my style and said ill see you in the final. ha ha.

i found that quite motivating. its nice to hear that from people youve never met.

i asked what they did and they said they were rappers and i said before you know it youll be the nxt eminem and he said i look like the nxt eminem. ha ha. :D :D :D

My routine was a little mental routine. The revelation of a thought of birthday present from the judge's childhood and then a variation on Koran's Medallion where a birthday present was opened, inside is a ring box and in that ring box was a disk with the judges birthday written on the back.

The problem that I had was that I was worried about the 2 minute time limit so stupidly made a couple of last minute changes to the routine which ended up killing the flow. I should have jsut gone on with the original idea and been stopped if I ran over.

It was a great day just for the experience if nothing else. Very interesting to see how they put those sorts shows together and filming for the opening credits was good fun.

You wouldn't use the judges birthday if you got through though surely?
They would arrogantly and wrongly assume you just Googled them.

Fair play for getting up there though. I am supposed to be going on the 13th, but an not sure if I will pluck up the testicular fortitude in time :P
