Hi guys, I've been playing about with jumping gems and got a nice little routine down, however I don't want it to be just a 'look, something appears, now its on both sides, now its red' kind of a routine. I'm trying ot come up with a good story to go with it.

For those of you that do it, what kind of story do you have? (not that I want to copy by any means, but just interested to know)

Jumping Gems. Two rods and the little jewels jump from rod to rod?

Sorry for the stupid question there are just so many of the 'paddle' effects on the marked it is difficult to keep them straight. And I really enjoy paddle tricks. I am addicted to the move I'll sit with a marker in my hand and make the logo appear and vanish for my own amusment. Pathetic? You bet, but it is what it is.

I use a hot rod, not jumping gems. Same basic principal but it uses one rod all different coloured gems on one side. Spectator chooses a number between one and six (I think there are six gems) and you count to that number and all the gems change to that colour. (standard routine)

Here is the routine I use. I do not use the number thing. And the paddle I use is from Jay Scott Berry and I am not sure if it is available anymore. But to give you an idea my patter is along these lines.

My Grandfather is from Poland and he always dreamed of moving to America because he heard that all the streets were paved with gold, (yes I start off showing all one colour and yes I looked long and hard for one that is gold) 'show rod, both sides with gold gems But when he finally made the move he learned that not all the streets were made of gold, (the gems have now changed from the solid colour to many colours). What he eventually learned was that all the roads have an opportunity to be paved with gold. rod vanishes completely and there is a gold coin in its place

Hope that will give you some sort of jumping off place to start creating your own patter.

A few sugestions that might help you develop a routine.

International jewel thieves... moving one jewel at a time.

Star Trek.. the Dylithium crystals, that help you jump from one place to another at the speed of light.

well, ive found a way to capture that Twinkle before it gets into your eye..

I use a Star Trek theme for that old favorite jiffy coin trick. The starship is the cheap metal disks wrapped in rubberbands. The sighned quarter is the captain and my hand is the planet. "Beam me aboard Scotty!" Whoosh the captain vanishes from the star ship and ends up on the planet

I've always wanted to end up not with a quarter in my hands, but a small board, as in...beam me a board! but it made no sense with the jiffy coin trick.

Don't know what revelance this has with anything. Just thought I would share.

one of the routines of mine that Paul Harris published (I love saying that ) in the reality twister book, had a Star trek theme.
Baisicaly the pen was used to Ilustrate what happened if you steped out of the transporter beam too early.



Again, nowt to do with the subject in hand, but it gave me an excuse to mention once again, that I have been globaly published by Paul Harris.
