I would imagine Paul daniels is disgraced that something like this was shown, very poor and very amateurish.

My favourite bit was the dodgy looking wallpaper screen that stood out like sore thumb that was put at upstage centre for the scene when the dance troupe appeared but then it wasn't there for any of the rest of the show. I just can't work out where the dance troupe could've been hiding.

PDMS had the best format hence why he lasted so long on mainstream TV... Stop trying to reinvent the wheel BBC and go back to basics!!

Exactly. He never taught random members of the public or "celebs" how to do his illusions and then judged them. What next, magic on The Generation Game?

Paul has twittered some of his thoughts.

I have put this on my facebook.....

Magicians view magic shows on television differently to the Lay audience. Some things colour an opinion on an effect, or a presentation, that the general public wont even spot if the performer does his or her job correctly. So to a point, my views dont count. if you are not a magician and watched tonights new bbc show, I would be facinated to see what you thought. :) remember, that all the tech guys are on my facebook

so lets see what Lay people think. :)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I don't think the current "Light Entertainment Producers" (if there are any!) know how to produce the shows anymore.

There is an obsession with "New" (just like there is in magic generally, "What's the New Trick?" etc etc.)

So new formats are being sought, just like the new tricks............ trouble is there isn't much wrong with the old tricks & the old formats, they just need a little "Tweeking" to bring them up to date.

The Magicians Show was over tweeked!!!!

I actually fell asleep near the end...........

All the best

I got so bored and infuriated with it that I started youtubing decent magi's to show friends I was sat with. Totally diabolical.

LEP's need to get a bloody grip and remember that classics are classics because they are well thought out, well engineered and above all else ENTERTAINING!!

I posted this on my Facebook and its got some interesting replys.

I think I speak for all entertainers here - Why cant TV stop using the same old acts and just pick some of the best talent we have and SHOW THEM OFF? would be much better than producing third rate shows where all they do is judge and test everyone. We should show the public what we have. Rant over!

Hey folks, just wanted to chip in.

Ive not been doing magic long, and ive only done a few bits and bobs for family so i do not consider myself an expert. However, I have picked up enough of the books to have a rough idea how alot of stage tricks work.

Just wanted to say that it was pretty obvious to me how the people were dissapearing and re-appearing - that the mirrors for the large chunky tables were very noticable and the smoke revealed more than it hid i think.

Also worth noting that the celebs really did seem to enjoy they're parts with alot of almost believable acting - my fiancee laughed most heartly at the hot coals bit - and pointed out several spectators looking in random directions while the performers walked. I for one would not be looking at the floor to the left while someone on the right was walking over coals of that temperature!

It did feel very - 10 year old does a magic show? Like the whole show was setup for a box dissapear routine?

Bit dissapointed actually - was hoping to show the family some of the reasons i got into magic and instead got Strictly Do Magic - with some remixed music from the old show :(

If you want to know what laymen think then I spent the last 20 mins of the magicians programme trying to persuade my missis to not pour bleach on her eyeballs.

For me it really doesnt matter whether the method seems obvious but rather the truely woeful format of the show.

Lenny Henry was about as funny as genocide, the cheesy dancing, cack "forfeits" and bored audience are just a few of the dreadful problems.

I've tried showering but the shame wont scrub off

My email to the BBC....

ME OF COURSE wrote:Oh dear oh dear oh dear... Auntie Beeb, what have you done???

This is clearly the worst magic programme to ever hit the screens of this country. Not only did you take age old effects that have been exposed time and time again on ‘Magics Biggest Secrets’ et al, but you also take Z listers and try to make this an entertainments show?

The very thought of bringing magic back to mainstream TV excited myself, an amateur magician, and professionals alike. The BBC finally bringing back what was good from a bygone era we hoped. Instead we received a diabolical and poorly produced programme! The effects were so obvious, the mindreading one had the word already showing on the screen due to camera angles. Mirrors were clearly visible. And chunky bases etc made this a very poor programme that bored myself and lay people alike.

Paul Daniels Magic Show was the best magic format to ever hit the TV screens. Give him a special and I bet you you reignite interest in magic on TV. With magicians, you are only going to tarnish the reputation of hard working magicians the world over. Sack it now and bring back some real magical variety. After all, if you can do ‘Live from the Apollo’ why can’t you return to a tried and tested successful format and bring the best of the worlds magic to our screens. NEW is NOT always BETTER!!

The format was muddled.

The illusions were unspectacular.

The bits with Bruno reminded me of the Generation Game.

Lenny seemed not to have been given a script - that or it had been written by the office junior.

Worst of all, I think it just served to reinforce the stereotypes that make so many laypeople think that they hate magic.

I wanted to like it. But ultimately thought it was pants.

Here's hoping 'Fool Me' is better on ITV.
