new deck

Postby theycallmesuperman » Jan 2nd, '11, 21:37

i did do a search for cards/decks, but i didnt find anything for what i was looking for.

basically, im getting a new deck of cards, i have 6 red and 6 blue bicycle decks. I also have the karnival decks, the normal one, the midnight one, and the assassin one. although those were bought in the excitement of buying cards.

anyway, would it be worth getting 2 normal bicycle decks or should i buy some custom deck. basically can you recommend a deck i should get :D im not paying for it my parents are so as long as the deck is less than £15 i can buy it.

Learn to perform magic properly with normal decks of cards. If you buy from magicbox, you can get Green bikes for very cheap. Buy a dozen or two and use them for practice, at least you then won't have wasted money on your other decks.

not my money my parents ;), and i can do magic ok, i havent had any criticisms, ive got enough decks to practice with, i was just thinking maybe it would be cool to have a custom deck to go out and perform with. but then if custom decks are completely pointless, i wouldnt mind getting bicycles again, or maybe i should invest in a svengali deck or some sort of trick deck??

I would suggest you invest in some more resources to learn from. What are you studying from at the moment?

From my observations, if you use "funny" cards then people either think that they are gaffed cards or they are as interested in the card as they are the trick itself. Unless you use tarot of course.

You have 16 decks of cards and two of the best resources on card magic, no need to buy more.

If you're dying to spend daddy's money, I suggest buying material on scripting, routining and theory. Eugene Berger would be an excellent starting point.

Custom decks are pretty pointless unless you want to collect them or something. If I were you I would follow the advice of the previous comment and learn to create an act. :D

As a new member, the questions that you have are most likely to have been asked here many times before. Certainly the topics of custom decks and which books to buy have been raised many times in the past.

What I would recommend to you is to:

1. Trawl through the web sites of the dealers who advertise on Talk Magic and look for things that interest you.
2. Once you have found something of interest, look through the review section to find out what other members have thought.
3. Look at the 'stickies' that have been written for new members who want to know what to buy.

Once you've gone through these then YOU decide what to buy and you can add your own comments to whatever review you've used.

Good luck
