It's pretty much P&T saying what they thought of the effect and if it fooled them or not. And each act had a bit of behind the scenes filming with Mr Ross.

Who came out on top in your eyes Angelo? I'd say Ali Cook based on the audience reaction.

Looking forward to seeing it all again on Friday night.

this morning used a clip of Ali and the Chick & Duck act on their pick of the week slot. What struck me was how bright and airy the set looked.MUCH better than the dark cold set on the magicians.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

Angelo, Simon, Is this just a one off?

It sounds like a great show. But maybe there are only a few magicians in the country confident enough to put themselves up in front of Penn and Teller. A whole series would need a lot of magicians. I know you'd never get me up there!

Sadly just a one off but as P&T were in the UK last year for the first time in ages, I'm hoping this is just the start of a few more visits and shows from them.

Actually, if it rates/reviews well they're planning on turning it into a series, and then taking it to America, as far as I'm aware.

Great news. Let's hope other magic shows haven't put people off tuning in.

I just saw on Twitter that Ali Cook has written about his experience on the show. Interesting read:

I think ITV have found a magic show that pleases Magicians and Lay people!

Sorry for my late reply.

In my eyes John Archer was the standout and am glad he was one of the winners. He is such a charismatic and naturally funny guy and the audience loved him.

Shame that some acts were never show. At least 3 acts were cut out and the manips part of James Moore's act was cut out and they only showed the illusion (hence all the playing cards on the floor at the start of the illusion).

Penn & Teller (A Breath of Fresh Air)

Postby Collin Richardson » Jan 8th, '11, 09:15

Hi, all.
What a breath of fresh air the Penn & Teller show last night. Specially having seen the BBC version the other week which fell very short of the hype. More shows like the above Penn & Teller show can only be good for magic's public image.

What a great show this was. I particularly enjoyed Micheal Vincent and John Archer, and was pleased for John fooling Penn and Teller.
The only down side was friends and family phoning me after every performance asking "how did he do that" which meant i missed some of the prog'. I hope ITV do some more of these, it was magic. :)

Watched it - loved it - even the gf enjoyed it.

Did seem alot more interesting and entertaining than the Beeb's show - probably because it was just magicians doing magic and not having to worry about simple routines that celebs can trip up on.

Was a little dissapointed that some of the routines were a bit simple - eg the blank cards routine - did they expect to fool P & T with something you can buy fairly cheaply and learn quite quickly?

That said, simple routines are best learnt and modified i think. Loved the chicken and duck piece - read alot about it but not seen it performed etc.

Best magic show on prime time tv for years, loved it. My only complaint, and this comes from a magicians point of view, was Ben Earl getting through. I found that slightly contrived, it's pretty obvious that P & T knew what they were talking about and by false shuffle they were implying the cards were retained in place throughout and the remainder of the deck could be shuffled any old way. I get the feeling they wanted to create a little controversy, a rescinded decision to make better tv. Then again maybe I'm just saying this because I find Ben Earl and his card magic extraordinarily tedious. No matter how clever his moves may be it was still a finding the aces routine and his finale with the palmed ace was pretty bloody obvious.
Every other element of this show was superlative and very pleased for John Archer, good to see a seemingly simple mentalism routine fool the experts. It takes real balls to perform mentalism in front of magicians and then to fool them, hats off to you sir.
