You don't think Penn spoke for both of them after their pow-wows? I think the juggler is kind of used to verbalising the magician's feelings after 35 years

It's a pedantic point I know but "mute" rather than "mime" rather gives the impression he has a medical condition

Just because Teller doesn't talk during their shows doesn't mean the guy doesn't have an opinion?

Teller is the one of the two with the biggest opinion on magic, and Penn is the person that speaks them. Take a close look at the interview with Lorraine Kelly when Teller does an off-the-cuff trick with the three balls, and when Penn wasn't sure at first how many balls was "put into" Lorraine's hand and you'll see Teller motioned to Penn off-camera how many to say there are

My wife thought that was one of the best ones, in so much as she thought it was less about being a 'trick' and more about very skilled magic. Even really liked the way the aces changed colour and wanted to see more of that. Meanwhile she thought the envelope was a 1 in 5 chance and couldnt see why he had to be so rude to the audience member when telling him his lines werent in the script. Perhaps she just didn't get that kind of old school northern magic presentation.

I think what is coming out of this resurgence in the popularity of magic is the understanding that there are very different types of style involved and some TV people might actually be starting to realise that. I dont mean street or stage or parlour but differences in performance and presentation, much the same way that there is in pretty much every other form of entertainment.

I mean it would be stupid if you decided to put a TV show on called Music and started with a brass band, then played some punk and finished with some bluegrass jazz. There is certainly a place for business convention magic and cruise ship magic but TV has to find some other style that works well on TV and far more importantly, ensures that the ratings are there to continue showing it. They haven't got there yet otherwise we'd be seeing more shows. Perhaps doing the BBC thing by mixing it all up is fine, but it isnt going to be a long term next big thing. The P&T vehicle of dressing it up with a gentle competitive element was a very very clever idea. It allows you to bring in a celeb panel, but doesn't detract from the performers. I can see them looking at this format again even if it is a bit of a new thing for September Films.

John Archer is one of the few people i can think of, that never resorts to Insult humour, and rudeness. His lines always involve the spectator. Also, what the hell is an Old School Northen magic presentation?

Just watched the show on ITVplayer... FANTASTIC !!!!

This is how magic should be shown, and with most/some people knowing that PnT often show how a effect is done, it showed just the right level of knowledge....

I was saying that compared to the other tricks she felt it was a 1 in 5 thing, just an opinion from people watching it. Perhaps it seemed less "magical" coming straight after Vincent.

As for the bit about rudeness or insults, perhaps that was too strong. It was more the ridicule the spec thing, asking him not to try and work out the different words, telling him he was trying to think too hard etc. telling him that when the script was read I didnt see your name appear so much etc. etc. Perhaps we were watching it in a different way, but it just seemed that typical comedian style of making the audience laugh at someone by gently picking on them.

As I was saying , people like very different types of styles and presentations and they dont always go down with everyone.

According to Amazon, 'Fool Us' will be released on DVD on Feb 7th.

The pre-release listing doesn't specify whether it will include all the acts they recorded, or just the ones that made it into the broadcast cut.

Great job by all that was on it. Personally, i thought the most entertaining to watch was Ali Cook. Loved it. Not a great routine for close up camera though but enjoyed his stage presentation. John Archer was greatbut he goes on like his on speed. Needs to slow down on the chit chat. Michael Vincent, yes he was good but my wife got bored of him very quickly and he did come across a bit too smug. Well done to Richard Bellars, he didn't deserve to be torn to shreds like that. It was a good performance of mind control. This is why I don't do magic for magicains!!!!!!

Dont worry about it....it is possible that it is an old gamblers expression.. Its not a magical term. except, I believe that stacked decks used in regular play are thought of as "hot" and a new unstacked deck, as "Cold."
