Electronics for Magicians 2 - Part 1

Postby Tomo » Jan 12th, '11, 13:44

Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to say that the first part of the second volume of Electronics for Magicians is finished and available!

The sheer amount of work involved has made it impractical to produce the entire thing in one go, so I've opted to publish it in parts. This first one contains some very sensitive modules for detecting things like sound and human touch, as well as modules for producing timed outputs and controlling external equipment. There's also a very useful heating element to build for all you flash paper users. I show how to put these modules together to create effects and everything is fully illustrated.

Click on my sig below for a free preview. Enjoy!

P.S: It's been so long in the making that I've forgotten who I promised free or review copies to. Please get in touch to remind me what we were talking about, but don't take the mickey and try to blag a freebie.

im qualified in electronics so im aware of how difficult this subject can be, but must say that the way the book (the first one as i haven't read this yet but will be ordering soon) is written makes it easy to understand without being condescending.

There are real world, workable projects too (again the first book, but im sure this will follow suit) and not just using electronics for the sake of it.

I cant recommend Tomo's work highly enough.

Congrats, Tomo!

This is going on my high priority list along with the 1st book. I have been wanting a guide to magic oriented electronics for ages and hadn't heard of your first book until now.

I'd really enjoy trying it all out but on top of that my father has a fantastic knowledge of electronics and I'm hoping to inspire him so he can come up with more ideas. Cross that with the boot sale round the corner and I might be onto some very good props. :)

Great news Tomo and good luck with it!

I'll need to get myself a copy of number one first though. But how suitable are these books for your average, silly tart who doesn't know her battery from her soldering iron (I'm allowed to say that, it doesn't mean anyone else is). Or will I have to pester hubby into making things up for me?

Silly tarts welcome! With or without numb fingers! It's all explained in very small steps with pictures.

If anyone does have any problems, just drop me a line.

Ooer, the digital rights management software turns out to prevent printing, so I've taken it off.

You really are getting some dark secrets of the subtle prop maker's art here.

This is really good. You know, even if you didn't want to pick up a soldering iron it's useful just to give you an idea of what is possible (and what someone like Tomo could make for you, no doubt for a reasonable price!)

I have to say, the last project in the book nearly made my eyes water. Fantastic stuff.

As a big fan of the last book, I was really looking forward to this one ... and I wasn't disappointed.

Really good stuff, very straightforward step-by-step instructions. All the units are modular, which is excellent. Lot's of possibilities and ideas leaping out at me.

Loved it.

There's a review up here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view ... forum=14&9

If the the Cafe's content linking prevention script says the thread doesn't exist, try this: http://bit.ly/gNdygr URL shortening services seem to bypass the script!

Blimey, a website that actively stops linking?
