Have this can of worms

Postby kolm » Jan 22nd, '11, 14:12

Whoops, it accidentally opened:
http://www.astrologicalassociation.com/ ... submit.php

"The Association will be requesting that the BBC make a public apology and a statement that they do not support the personal views of Professor Brian Cox or Dara O’Briains on the subject of astrology. We also request that the BBC will commit to making a fair and balanced representation of astrology when aired in the future."

And the quote in question, which I found hilarious:
Dara O'Briain: "Let's get this straight once and for all, Astrology is rubbish"
Prof Brian Cox: "in the interests of balance on the BBC, yes astrology is nonsense"

Oh you guys... ;)

Oh I'd love to hear Dara O'Briain 'apologise', he'd pile the aggro on even deeper!

Patrick Moore, the grandaddy of TV astronomy, said very much the same thing years ago and I don't recall any campaigns for apologies then.

The more that clearly wrong ideas are shown to be nonsense, the more the people making money out of them demand apologies. But why should this be, especially if they can apparently show it works?

Ah, hang on, I think I know the answer to that one...

*snicker*

These pseudo-beliefs are as much religion as religion is. New Age, yoga, etc., have as much of a 'if you believe it works, it works' aura surrounding it and demand as much faith from their followers. So yes, 2 plus 2, etc. ;)

I remember this, brilliance!

Reminds me of that episode of QI which I believe when something along the lines of;
Alan Davies: Stephen is there a God?
Stephen Fry: No darling, no there isn't

"The most important thing is not to stop questioning."

I think he did that on Buzzcocks too. Brilliant line!
