Just noticed this trick Gilligans Island on the penguin magic e mail flyer, is anyone here aware of it. It looks fantastic, the blurb says...
Effect :
Brand New! An effect so strong it sounds too good to be true, but plays exactly as described below!

You show a small clear, corked glass bottle on the table. A paper roll is clearly seen inside the bottle, just as with a shipwrecked message.

You then ask a spectator to name a card - ANY CARD, and as he/she names the selected card, you uncork the bottle. The spectator himself takes the paper roll out of the bottle. When they unroll the paper, the named card is clearly written on it!

Unbelievable, yet best of all, everything can be examined!!!

I watched this earlier when the newsletter arrived in my inbox and I have to say that I was not impressed with the trick. I thought that the small size would make it awkward and the hand movement around the neck of the bottle looked suspicious. Maybe it's just me.

I recommend watching the video clip as I thought that the voice dubbing was more entertaining than the effect and worth a watch for it's own sake.

Yeah, that dubbing was great! I actually actively boycott any product whose adverts are dubbed as I hate it so much.

In this case though I think it wouldn't be too hard to improve the handling the guy uses in the video (assuming that he t**** p**ms before some kind of l*** to get the right **** in the ******)

Just a point, but it seems to me that it would be much fairer if you Classic forced a card and never touched the bottle. I mean, it sounds terrible to a magician but from the point of view of a spectator, how would they know the difference? Just that in one version you touch the bottle and in another you don't!

Think I'll wait until someone who actually owns the trick posts here before I lash out given the fairly negative comments above. Being fairly stupid I didn't actually see him do anything dodgy with his hands & have no idea how the trick works but yeah just use a force I suppose...

I mean, it could be a deviously clever method using an invisible leprechaun, but the spectator doesn't know that, so it seems to me a bit pointless...why run when you're not being chased.

A really strong version would be to use the psychological force Derren uses (to force the 3D, say)...

Yeah that's really impressive but doesn't always work.

You could have a prediction in a bottle on the table. Then try to force the 3D: if it works, have them open the bottle. If not, pass it off as an experiment and do a 100% force...

30 Quid for a small plastic bottle and a cork - I'm in the wrong business!!

Alright I know theres probably some 'new' form of palm / sleight / gimmicked bottle etc., but come on they taking the mick a bit.

Been caught once or twice when buying a trick, before I discovered this forum, so I'd like to thank everyone for their reviews / advice etc.

Afternoon guys just to clear up a few points about Gilligans Prediction.

What you recieve with the trick:

Glass bottle with a prediction in it.
A spare cork/stopper.
A tool for rolling the predictions up with.
Plenty sheets of paper to use for future predictions.
2 special somethings for the trick.
Written instructions.
Instructions on Dvd.

I was quite surprised when this arrived on saturday morning as to the contents of the package.

I will write a review in due course, but thought this was good value for £28.

Off to see Derren Brown tonight & will post comments about that too.
