monitor foil

The "stuff" described as monitor foil in a recently released effect for mentalists and used for a few years in other bits, what is it? Or more importantly where can it be bought and what is it's correct name?
I have an alternate use for it and have been trying to source a large amount of it for years but never been able to find out its trade name.
Apologies if this seems extremely vague but don't want to give anything away.
If anyone knows a pm is probably the best way to answer.

Are you perhaps looking for a privacy filter?

I don't know the effect so I don't understand why mentioning the material would constitute exposure :? But since you called it monitor foil I guess it's similar to what I believe was a plumbing product that some unscrupulous people used years ago to make coin mechanisms think an old 10p was a 50p. I don't know what it's called.

No and no. Sorry people, I don't mean to be annoyingly secretive but if I mention the effect people will immediately get an idea of how it works. Whilst I could also mention what the stuff does it would equally be a case of exposure of a technique. It is only known as monitor foil for this one effect (it isn't foil), I have seen it called other things elsewhere. None of it's names are it's correct trade name. I guess I just need to find out what it is used for in the real world then I'd be able to get hold of some.
I've just realised that this message sounds like a riddle. None of this will make any sense to anyone who hasn't bought the effect so if you haven't come across the term before best to ignore me and put it all down to the ramblings of a mad man.

Ok, got an answer. Thankyou people who pm'd.
This thread may as well be deleted as it's so vague as to be completely pointless.

It probably makes more sense than many other threads :D ! However, just to put the idea to bed I've locked it.
