WARNING! Do not buy Skullcrusher.

After purchasing Skullcrusher for £3.99 for UYD (received instantly, good service good product, aren't they wonderful etc). I then decided to look at some of the other stuff for sale and discovered 'Ultimate mind reading', which contains three effects.

Ultimate mind reading, Touch of genius and... Skullcrusher.

Price? £3.99

WHAT THE f***?

This is generosity bordering on the malevolent, this is killing me with kindness.

I love the Skullcrusher effect and have already adapted it to suit my style, but I'm now going to be eternally bitter at missing out on such a fantastic deal. For those of you who read this and take advantage of this deal I curse you and your children forever.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

I bought the Mega Magic eBook 1 from UYD this evening for £6.99 which included Skull Crusher along with LOADS of other effects.

I thought it had to be worth it at the cost of a couple of pints.

Can I just ask without risk of exposure....this Skullcrusher effect sounds too damn mighty good to be true.

Tell me, anyone who owns it, is it as pure as it sounds or is there lots of directing the spectator (dealing certain numbers of cards etc) ?

I hate it when effects are described in this beautifully clean manner, and when you get them it turns out that in order to perform it you need to be riding a unicycle juggling fish.

Ah, if only they would listen to wizened old Mandrake, sometimes his confused, (and misspelled!) ramblings are slightly useful… On January 1st in http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic37698. ... mega+magic
Mandrake wrote:You might want to get Mega Magic instead as it includes Skullcrusher and several other usseful routines/effects for only slightly more

The blurb from the Skull Crusher effect itself:
Effect :- You read the mind of a person without asking any
questions at all, they just think of a card. The deck is borrowed.
The cards are NEVER touched by the magician.
This effect can be performed over the phone, the Net, Skype, TV,
Radio shows, in another room, in the same room with your back
turned!
This is an effect that you can perform anywhere at all
There are none of the follow at all!
No Forces
No Maths
No Skill
No Memory work at all
No Key cards
No Gimmicks
Best of all there is no prep work at all!
A truly impromptu perform anywhere at all effect that will truly
crush the skulls of magicians and laypeople alike!
Do not miss this truly wonderful effect.
No Hype, No Bull, No Nonsense.
The Secret is so subtle its genius!
You perform the skull crusher effect without ever seeing the
cards, touching the cards, asking any questions at all!
There are just 6 steps to performing this miracle! Yes just six
very simple steps!

Not sure if that helps or hinders but the whole document is very low priced so if that one doesn't float your boat, the other effects might make up for it!

Like any effect that requires audience participation or even can be performed over the phone, this has need for some direction. Fear not tho! It's not long and dragged out at all. It's a nice effect and with the other effects you get it's a real no brainer. People get put off by the price I think. Imagine if it was £10 on a DVD. You would probably have more faith in it.

Hope that helps.

Like all magic effects when they give a long list of the things it's not they do make it sound more brilliant than it is, but think about it, your not going be able to do the impossible just seem to.

Unfortunately while they can say 'no forces, no pumping, no wires etc' what they can't say is 'no faffing about'.

All I can say without risk of exposure is that it's your job as the magician to come up with a justification for the slightly odd card selection process. I've already done that by converting it to an over the phone star sign revelation (the great thing about bizarre magic is that there is always a justification for faffing about, it's a magic ritual.)

So far I've tested this out twice. One person (my friend) was blown away while one person (my mother) saw right through it. So I do think perception is an important part of making the trick strong, (and as Grue pointed out we once witnessed someone see through OOTW, performed by a very skilled mentalist) but as has been said before it's only £3.99 you really can't go wrong for that price.

Mandrake I remembered your advice but to be honest the other effects didn't interest me enough to warrant the extra £3. What annoys me about missing out on purchasing the 'Ultimate mind reading' set is that it's the exact same goddamn price.

I can't prove it yet but I'm convinced that UYD is evil, because no company is ever as good as they appear to be, but I'm on to them and I will find out, oh yes.

I would love to see a magic trick with the tag line:

'No faffing about required!'

Do let us know what you think. What's the cold reading ebook like? Seems like a very good deal for £4.

Surely they should forward you "Ultimate Mind Reading" as a gesture of good will? It's entirely understandable that any customer in this circumstance is going to feel ripped off... can't be good for business.

I'll add on any comments to the thread started in the reviews section and...I haven't had a chance to read the cold reading book yet. I find myself agreeing with Jermay with cold reading, its best just to get out and do it. Voodini gave me the tools to get started, now its just learn by doing. Its disconcerting how accurate you can be.

Hi there
All the ebooks on the site are still a bit of a mish mash from work we published years ago , so there are some bargains to be had. Some work also appears twice in certain collections, and other tricks are sold alone. So until we get round to sorting it all out and tidying up the site when time allows the ebooks will stay as they are. If anyone does feel that they have been short changed then simply send an email to myself via the website or PM here with your email address and ill forward you a link so you you can have the Ultimate mind reading for free.
The website will be updated within a week or two hopefully and time willing.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Simon

A thousand curses on you and your offspring (not that you'll be able to have any offspring, where I aimed to curses.)

Not really they have the right to sell what they want when they want and repackaging products is standard business practice anyway, (think of those silver, gold and platinum Starwars DVDs a few years back).

I am hoping given their track record of generosity that some offer of that nature might be made, and if it is of course I will take it, but I wouldn't dream of asking, nor do I see why they should be obligated to give away a product, it was my mistake not theirs 'Hey UYD, your prices are insanely low for the quality of the product, but could you give me some more stuff for free?' I just don't have the nerve for that.

When Hauntiques first came out it was available for preorder for about £70. I didn't know about it at the time. When I finally got it a few years later it was available for £40 should the people who first brought it demand £30 back?
