Creator: Based on an original idea by Robert Jackson
Packaging Quality: The whole package comes in a simple plastic bag. The prop itself is within a nice red velvet drawstring bag that wouldn’t look out of place being carried around by a working magician.
Instructions Quality: You are supplied with one page of printed instructions which is perfectly adequate as the effect is pretty simple in operation.
Contents: You are supplied with the main ‘zig-zag’ card prop, the printed instructions and the red carry bag which is also useful for storing the prop when not performing, (though you will probably want to have it on display).
Prop Quality: This item looks really nice. It is made of dark wood and has shiny ‘brass’ buttons on each of the removable panels. The prop itself feels nice to use whether you are an amateur or a professional magician. I had a plastic version of this type of effect when I was younger, this is a much nicer looking version.
Initial Thoughts: This is a really nice effect and a really nice prop, however there is one fundamental problem. The card supplied is far too thick, (trying not to expose the method) and it makes the handling more difficult than it needs to be. I would recommend that anyone purchasing this should replace the supplied card with a card from a “Phil Deck”. With this in mind the effect and visual illusion is very strong.
After Playing for a while: With the ‘Phil Card’ in use the operation is much smoother and easier although you must be aware of your angles when performing this effect. My personal recommendation would be to spend a bit of time playing with the possible hand positions and angles to get the most out of the effect as you will find that the method used allows you to alter the way you handle the prop to suit your requirements. The best thing about this prop is that in its ‘zig-zagged’ state it looks fantastic as a display item and will take pride of place in my magic display cabinet.
First Performance: I showed this to my fiancée as she loves anything visual. To a lay person this effect is very strong and seemingly impossible, what more could you ask for?
Overall Audience Reaction: Very strong for a lay person and equally as puzzling for magicians.
Pros: Looks great
Cons: In my opinion the card supplied is unsuitable and should be replaced as advised above.
Value for Money: If you want a quality looking prop that delivers a visual and puzzling effect, this will not disappoint you.
