Good morning ladies and gents.

Just thought I'd pop in and make myself known. Unlike other forums I've come to frequent, this perhaps will not be best suited to lurking!

I'm new to magic but very keen to explore what's out there after seeing Ricky Jay perform his 52 Assistants show.

I've joined this forum with a view to being guided into the literature I should be delving into and learn of new and impressive gaffs and gimmicks out there and brush up on my Magic history.

I live above a busy bar and venue and I do a lot of table-hopping so I'm fond of impromptu card and coin effects or tricks that often take the form of Proposition Bets.

I've got the most part of The Royal Road under my belt but things like Bottom and Second dealing from Erdnase are proving harder to master!

I've got a very keen interest in mentalism and have invested in some Osterlind Videos and such like and been blown away by the power of some of these effects but I'd love to find out more about where to go next in order to learn. After scanning these pages briefly, I've just ordered 13 Steps. Thanks for the nudge.

I am a professional touring musician so I am a very comfortable performer and the one thing I love about magic specifically is that in any country across the world, it has the same effect... a penetration is a penetration, a vanish is a vanish.... no matter what language you speak.

I think that's about all I can say without giving you guys my life story.

Cheers.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Hi, I'm in a similar place myself with the books I'm reading.

Hi, welcome to TM :)
If you havent already noticed, Ricky Jays patter in his four Queens routine (from 52 assistants) is taken straight out of the Erdnase book you have. Check out 'The Exclusive Coterie' :)

I've seen the routine in the book.

Its one of my favourite parts of the show too. I love it when he says "Goochy, goochy, goo."

I've actually got a lot of that show down solidly... I even got a couple of sets of cups and balls and I'm solid with those too. I was at first apprehensive with final loads but now I find that to be one of the easiest manoeuvres.

There are some elements of the 52 Assistants that I have yet to even understand let alone emulate but I'm having SO much fun trying to figure out ways to perform the same effects.
