Feck morality, WHEN the partner is infected and the whole sorry tale comes out, how likely am I to be struck off? That's all I give a shinola about.

I do not work in the care sector.

In Britain HIV is already classed as a notifiable disease so the GP would inform the Public Health Unit who would ensure anyone who has had or does have intimate contact with the patient is urgently put in contact with medical staff for treatment. He could be struck off if he doesn't do this.

Also I find your poll that you have posted is clearly offensive as appears to suggest that a Doctor may have a choice of informing relatives or people who have had intimate contact with the patient.

It isn't the Doctor's job to do it in the UK so neither answer is correct and your Poll is offensive as it appears to suggest one answer is the correct one, whereas infact neither answer is correct because there are already sturdy systems in place to deal with Notiiable Diseases in the UK.

Perhaps yourself or one of the Moderators could amend your Poll to reflect the truth of the matter?

Thanks for the extra information...

But offensive? Really? Do we really need to go down all this politically correct rubbish again?

I was merely inputting a poll suggesting people's general opinions in the matter. I'm not saying "one must make such a decision and make it a simple tell them or don't tell them" - obviously it goes deeper than that.

Why are you taking offense at such an inoffensive question? I'm not offending you or anybody else - I'm asking your opinion. If I ask your opinion on alternative medicine...is that offensive because a lot of the scientific community don't like it? Of course not...it is asking your opinion.

So in opposition, I kindly request that my post doesn't get edited - I've been enjoying the chat so far, as it is something that I have been having a mass debate about with housemates

He thought he had identified a moral dilemma where none exists, that's all. I don't think there is any suggestion that either answer is the 'correct' one. You are offended that the OP wasn't familiar with the Health Protection (Notification) Regulations?

Correct, I am offended that he has suggested a moral dilemma exists where it doesn't when the correct course of action to be taken is already available in the public domain should the public wish to read up on it.

However it is warming to note that he is now able to inform his housemates where to find the correct information so as to bring peace in our time to his house for the rest of the evening :)

In that case I think we're all done here.
