Sefalaljia 1939

Postby Dudedavid » Feb 28th, '11, 16:17

I read that dolly darko (http://www.lebanoncircle.co.uk/Dolly%20Darko.html) is inspired by the Stewart James ‘Sefalaljia’ close up one-man spirit cabinet routine (published in Jinx issue #69 in 1939 and then later in Annemann's Practical Mental Magic). I have the Annemann's book and I read carefully the routine of the ball and the glass is explained but I have some questions...
Is there a way I can ask without spoiling too much ?? Thank you!

well, yes. If you want the exact props mentioned in the rotine, you can buy them from a dealer in the states.
but they cost an absolute fortune.

the basic ball and glass routine, thats just a sponge ball and a glass.

the bottle, is very hard to track down. I have one in my collection.

It took me 20 odd years to find one.

but you dont need to do the effects as published. Mini spirit slates are freely available, you could have chosen cards rise out of a small deck, or have the spirit turn over a chosen card, whilst the deck is inside the cabinet.. ( Ill let you work that one out yourself)
Many other effects lend themseves to this.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....
