There are certain hard-wired aspects to the brain, meaning that even if you know how an illusion works, you still can't stop yourself from falling for it. Here's an excellent case in point - a floating cube: http://www.youtube.com/user/Rxe08

I already have! And quite brilliant it is, too. In fact, the little bu**er is trying to stare me out right now.

That floating cube is pretty good; even when you know how it's done, you still can't help but be fooled. My favourite optical illusion of all time is the checker shadow illusion.

Interestingly, I actually couldn't go back to seeing the floating cube after the side view, however, I couldn't see the "real" object when watching the first part of the video for a second time. Odd.
