I learned this move from Ian as well. It wasn't unusual for me not to see any change in height for weeks (months!) at a time. To get any where near Ian's level means being in it for the long haul. I've been doing it for about 4 years and woe betide me if I let it slip for a month or two... The callus on my hand disappears and the distance the coin travels probably halves. It's such a seldom used muscle on your hand so it's gonna take a lot of work to build it up - it's not like you're performing a natural movement that happens frequently during the day. I alternate days with a light coin(half dollar or old penny) then a day with a heavier coin (like an early half crown or even a dollar). Whether this is good practise, I dunno, but it seems to help me. The most important thing though is to keep at it as often as possible during the day, every day. I'd go through periods where I'd practise the move hundreds and hundreds of times a day (not even trying for height, merely powering the coin from hand to hand as hard as possible over and over in order to build up the muscle)... and lo and behold after a few weeks I'd then surprise myself by how high I could make the coin go. Anyway hope this helps a bit and I'm sure others with far more experience than I will post more useful info soon.
