Chronologue, which wallet?

Postby Pauline's Pens » Mar 6th, '11, 22:32

I need a wallet for the Chronologue routine. I've read posts that say it's possible with the Pimpernel Notecase, but I can't see how. If you're going to show the audience that you have a card in the wallet there's only two 'out's'. And you're going to need four.
Otherwise all 'outs' have to be concealed.
Anyone help me out here.

I didn't find an adequate alternative either. The Miller Miracle Wallet should work, but I understand that the person with the rights to make them is not currently producing them. However, some places still sell them years after they were last officially produced. Make of that what you will. It might just be an ugly rumour!

Oh, and technically, any two way out wallet could be used, if you adapt the ending a little bit. However, I think it really should be as clean as Bob demonstrates it.

Stirrer!

PP - I didn't find a UK stockist for the Wallet back when it was being produced. A couple of places had a cheap knock-off of the MMW, but it was badly made and you had to do all sorts of work on it just to get it to do what it was supposed to at the start. I don't think that is even available now.

It makes you wonder why no one like Tony Curtis of Jerry O'Connell produces a slimline four-way out wallet. The one I picked up was huge and looked very odd.

That has just reminded me of Stephen Tucker's Wow Wallet. It allows for up to six outs. It's not quite as normal-looking as the MMW or the Diplomental Pouch, but for four outs, I think it might be OK. I had a look at it, and wasn't entirely happy for its use in Chronlogue, but I must admit I can't quite recall why. It was either that the wallet looked a little strange, or that because of its construction, the outs were visible (or some were), so careful handling was required.

Another option is to go for something like an Heirloom Wallet, or the Infinity Wallet, but these should be treated like your regular wallet, and you might prefer to have the finale ultra-clean. with nothing else at all in the wallet,

But then, why have a wallet which contains only a single playing card?

Hi all. Just joined here and saw this thread about Chronologue.

For the record, I don't use a wallet anymore for the effect. I just use four jumbo cards - two in my inside left jacket pocket and two in my right. The revelation is a lot more visual that way.

And note that, unlike the commercial version of Chronologue, the version that I use and that I describe in "The Artful Mentalism" and on the "Mental Miracles" DVD, allows me to know what the card is BEFORE the participant looks it up in the diary. That way the correct card is out of my pocket and in view (back toward the audience) before the participant states what card appears on her selected date.

Hope that is of use to some of you.

Good thoughts,

Bob

 Sorry, but my last one wore out a few years ago!

(But it's pretty easy to make one that is perfectly suitable for stage use if you are good at arts and crafts with cardboard and black duct tape. Really!)

Good thoughts,

Bob

New presentational Idea.

Instead of a wallet, why not tape the 4 force cards to the bottom of 4 seats in the audience? Then when picking a person to help with the experiment, you just make sure it's one of the people with a card on their chair. 25% of the time your going to hit the right person whose selection is in fact under their very own seat. The other 75% you can just point to another person asking them to look under their chair to find the correct card, or pull the card from some other impossible location?

Just thinking out loud.

Cardboard and duct tape? That's a very good idea, Bob, and I might have a go.

Sorry for not supplying any wallet information. However, Richard Osterlind's ETMMM volume 2 has an effect with which you can apply the outs without a wallet. Its right after the medallion effect if I remember correctly.

adding to this idea, you could use a force bag if the seats were numbered so you could force which seat/person was chosen?
