The question of which religion you consider yourself to be a part of is a voluntary one in the census.

I stated my religion as 'Fairyfolk'.

Anyone else planning on putting anything amusing?

'Jedi' was popular last time around, apparently.

I agree entirely. I believe in fairies. They are the reason I've ever lost anything. I don't misplace stuff - fairies move it all.

"Jedi" is just as an informed choice as "Christian" or any other more mainstream faith. Just because one works on the Sabbath doesn't mean one can't be a Christian. Likewise just because one hasn't got a light saber doesn't mean one can't be Jedi.

I'm told by extremely old relatives that conscripts to the British Army who wanted to avoid Church Parade on Sundays used to declare themselves as 'Freethinkers' and, as the Army rule book didn't have an established form of worship for that category they were excused parade. Might still work.....

on ta forms I would politely ask them not to put c of e on my forms when i said i don't have any religiose views.

thease days and for the census I've stated "freestyle pilgrim" which meens I'm not tied down to one churches ethos and can read tarot cards for fun without going to hell.

plus though I'm generaly nice if you cross me I will shoot you.

Atheism - at least as promulgated by the likes of Richard Dawkins - is as strong a belief system as any religion.

I'm probably a Deist, but as I'm not sure I'll leave this section blank.

We're having a census here too, and I will be putting atheist. I am a very vocal and proselytizing one at that. But lapsed physicist would also, like Tomo, describe me.

Indeed. That's why I say I'm not even an atheist. I just get on with things without any regard to the existence of a god or gods. The best I can come up with for an all-encompassing force is entropy, which I suppose could be analogous to Shiva's purpose as destroyer in Hinduism.

One thing that surprised me while trying to work out what I am was discovering that science and religion are not incompatible. A few minutes listening to an interview with Sir John Polkinghorne changed my views radically:
