Leaving a card in the box

Postby Mr Toucan » Mar 11th, '11, 19:06

Hi,

I was interested to hear people's techniques for removing a deck from its box whilst leaving a chosen card in the box.

I fumble around doing this and haven't yet managed to make it look smooth.

Cheers,

James

I use some sticky stuff inside the card box.
In fact a fingerprintsize spot coated with 3M Remount Spray (which is the best thing magic happened).
Works like a charm.

Hi James.
    I have a nice solution for this - a card box which appears regular, yet can be used to retain up to four cards in the box as the deck is removed (no fumbling at all). Its my own idea which I came up with for an ace effect.
I have a spare which you can have - its in red (bicycle). Theres no sticky stuff involved. PM me if you want it.

Here is a method I have succesfully used with a pack of bikes;

Close your card box with all but the chosen card inside of it. Next... slide the chosen card into the closed box at the side of the closed flap.

(You should now be able to see part of your chosen card on the bit of the box where the 'U' shaped thumb cut out is, however it is not noticable to the untrained eye as only the white border shows.)

Finally when you open come to open the box insert your thumb nail between the flap of the box and the chosen card with one hand and pull it against the wall of the box, (i.e away from the flap) as you open the flap with the other, (effectively holding the chosen card in place against the side of the box with your thumb nail) and tip the cards out into your other hand.

I know this isn't the best of explanations but I hope that you get the idea.

I use this method regularly and it works fine. No need for any sticky stuff either.

I do it with a s******* deck as a closer after a routine. Have a spec return the master card and then hand the box to them. Do some flourishes as misdirection and then tell them to look in the box. Gets great reactions every time!
