Full Facts of Cold Reading - HELP

Postby jbmagic » May 24th, '05, 23:17

I thought I would ask the forum if anyone could help.....

On 1st May I ordered the Full Facts of Cold Reading book direct from Ian on his site......on the following Thurs or Fri I sent him an email as I hadn't heard anything and got a reply to say the book is sent direct from his publisher and would be sent out by the 9th when his publisher returned from holiday.

I hadn't heard anything when I left to go on my P & O gig on the 11th, but expected to have received it by the time I got back.....as I posted earlier I had to rebuild my computer when I got back so I couldn't contact Ian but there was nothing waiting for me........

I finally managed to send an email to Ian two days ago, asking what the hold up is.....so far I've heard nothing from him....BTW, I originally asked for a Signed delivery.....Can anyone help? Is Ian usually this uncommunicative and is he usually this long for his deliveries??

I am sure there are other forum members who have ordered this book....I am a little worried as with signed delivery...£32 is not an amount I can afford to throw away right now.....

I ordered this by mail in the run-up to Christmas last year. In spite of the time of year, I had got my copy of the book back in a matter of days. I can't quite recall how long, but it was under a week, almost by return of post, I think.

As such, I have no experience of having to chase up delivery. I thought his response time was excellent.

Has the payment been taken from your card?

Do you ever have trouble with your post?

In answer to your questions first asked by Part-Timer:

Has the payment been taken....

The payment was taken off my card on the 3rd May and looking it's exactly £35.47 not £32 as I first thought, to be honest I hadn't looked on the account until now.....When you mentioned this, I was hoping that the payment hadn't been taken but it has.

To your second question....I have never had any trouble with my post before.....in fact I ordered two books from Magic Books by Post the previous week and they arrived with no problems 3 or 4 days later and that was ordinary parcel post.

The other question asked by tarb was.... is the package held in the Post Office.... but that wouldn't happen unless they left a card to say we tried to deliver a package but you were not in etc....as I wouldn't know which office to collect it from as there are several in Plymouth and they would just ask for your card.....they wouldn't entertain even looking for it if you don't have one.....Plymouth is a big place.

Many thanks for coming back with those questions but as you can imagine, I am still at a loss.....as it doesn't take into account the fact that he is now not answering my emails or at least hasn't answered the last few I've sent him.

I understand he may be away but as you can imagine I am worried.

Looks as though something's gone wrong somewhere and all I can suggest is that you persevere with Ian. If you read through his website, he explains what happens if a book goes astray in the post. It's not ideal.

It's quite possible that it was never sent out. I found his service excellent, so perhaps the problem lay with the publishers. You're just going to have to wait, unfortunately.

Thanks Part-Timer,

I have read what happens when a book gets lost in the post, but I would think that with signed delivery, which I paid for, he would at least contact me to tell me he is trying to enquire about it, I have asked him to send me the reference so that I can make some enquiries but as he has not answered my emails I take it he is maybe not at home right now....

Because his service appears to be otherwise excellent, I will give Ian a while longer, maybe another week or two, but after that time it will be over 1 month since I paid for this book and I may have no choice but to try to contact my credit card company to recover the payment.....this I might add will be a last resort but if I get no contact from him whatsoever I will have no choice.

Here is an update......

I have now received a couple of emails from Ian and I am arranging for the book to be delivered.

Apparently his web site is frozen and he is not receiving any emails from his usual email address.....his web site host pulled out at the last minute (without warning) this resulted in a few orders not being delivered. He is currently looking for a new web site host.

I am now happy that I am at least talking to Ian and getting things sorted out.....

Thank you to everyone for your help and advice!

BTW, he can be contacted on the Demon address for the time being.......
