PK Wizard ring

Postby tommio8 » Mar 13th, '11, 19:30

Does any one know if the Pk Wizard original or G2 ring will effect electronics.
I want to buy one but don't want it messing up my iphone or laptop.
I've read mixed reviews about this topic and the main thing im worried about is using my phone which will be close to the ring and breaking the phone via the magnets.
thanks tommy

Any magnet has the potential to affect solid state (aka flash) memory. This is one of the ways of erasing it. It also has the potential to corrupt your credit cards so you need to be careful here. There is less risk with an iPhone but the possibility does exist.

Overall, you need to be aware of the issue and manage the risk in the same way you might manage the risk of a particular sleight being visible.

In performance I wear a PK ring instead of my wedding ring and just ensure I use my right hand to hold potential problem apparatus.

The end will justify the means I can assure you.

It might not ruin the memory but there are other components such as the compass which a rare earth magnet will affect. The new iPad is also lined with magnets which another magnet (especially a ring) is likely to cause problems with (ie. keep turning the ipad off) - I wouldn't be surprised if the iphone5 uses similar magnet technology

You'd probably be ok (I'm not aware of magnets negatively affecting phones), but personally I wouldn't chance it. If it does break it's very unlikely the manufacturer will replace it, and phones aren't cheap

I even keep coinvexed in a different pocket to my iphone

Unless you enjoy wiping your phone and hoping reverting to factory settings will make it work again, I do not suggest putting magnets near your phone.

Hey guys,

Just to let you know, the ring WILL ruin British Rail tickets. You know, the ones about the same size as a credit card with a magnetic strip.

Keep wondering why my tickets wouldn't work and let me through those pesky electronic gates in stations. Once it clicked what was causing it, I evily (is that how you spell that?) tried it on a friends. Same result. 4 tickets in total zapped. :-)

Still, just make sure to handle the ticket in your other hand. Sorted. :-)

Not sure of the answer to this but i do know that the iPad 2 has 31 built in magnets that are used to attach a smart cover! I understand the new iPhone 5 will have the same properties.

Not just, it also controls power. Do you really want your ring turning off your iPad whenever you go near it? and do you really want a strong earth magnet bashing against it whenever it's nearby? That's a good way to scratch it

(also, the smart cover/magnet system was designed by apple, who would've made sure the magnets went nowhere near it could've caused problems)
