Tommy Lee's Super Humans

Postby Nic Castle » Mar 22nd, '11, 19:07

Has anyone been watching this programme it is on the Quest Channel. I have watched the first two episodes and been wondering whether any of them are using tricks to do the effects. Up to now there have been some interesting people

Man quicker than a calculator
strong man
Mr electric - an man from india who passed electric through his body to power light bulds, multi meter testing and a hot plate.
shoalin monk

Many of the people are tested by "Experts" but I am still skeptical.

I haven't watched the show, but can only say that 'experts' amount to pretty much nothing when dealing with charlatans.

I saw some fairly ordinary guys doing some fairly ordinary stuff and being feted by so-called experts. Then a guy dived thirty feet into a kids paddling pool, and I was impressed.

I would love to have seen the human calculator. That stuff fascinates me.

Are you talking about Stan Lee's show? If so, I have seen most of them, and while I agree with Tony that not all of the subjects have been that interesting, I haven't seen anything that involved trickery or charlatanism

I've never heard of a "Tommy Lee."

Good thoughts,

Bob

The episode I saw featured a kung fu expert who could generate phenomenal punching power. The expert who tested him gushed that he was generating the power that elite boxers generate. Big deal - I can generate that punching power. I saw nothing super human, or even extraordinary, in most of what was presented. Which was disappointing, because there are odd people out there who would have made interesting subjects.

Tommy Lee was/is Motley Crue's drummer, and yes he was Mr. Pammy. Surely you all saw the sex tape?

Aaaaanyways...I saw the one where a geezer could withstand any electrical current. It was weird. He discovered his gift after attempting suicide following his Mother's death. He tried to electrocute himself and realised he had these strange powers...

I didnt know this was on, will be watching the next episode which going by the tv guide should be interesting.
This 'electricity' guy wasnt an Indian chap by any chance ? I saw a programme a few years ago with an Indian fellow that done these sort of things. Good trick

Yes he was Indian. Some of the people appear to be legit, but some leave you wondering. Some of the so called experts fall short of being impartial or providing credible evidence.

Nic, I'll be watching the next episode of this and will post my thoughts. Depending on what I see I may PM you instead of posting on the main forum, to save any of the petty arguements that usually ensue with this sort of topic.

I was especially impressed by one episode which featured my friend Tim Cridland and his abnormal ability to withstand pain. Another good one was about a fellow who effortlessly climbs almost smooth vertical walls in a jungle setting in the same manner as the native monkeys.

All in all this is one of the better reality shows in my opinion. I really don't care if all of the abilities shown are "real" in a scientific sense. I just find some of them to be very entertaining and a definite plus, in many cases, for those of us in the "mystery arts."

Good thoughts,

Bob

If it was being presented as people with weird abilities - like the old Ripley's show - it could be great. The problem is the bogus experts pretending to give it a sheen of respectability. They spoil it for me, but I will probably watch again, to see guys like the man belly flopping into a paddling pool from thirty feet. Brilliant.

I love going to a sideshow and seeing weird guys. They don't need a justification.

Good points Tony. I agree about the way these things are sometimes presented (Im speaking about these shows in general, I havent seen this particular one yet). If it were a show just presenting human oddities or curios then it wouldnt matter if it was real or not - it would be very entertaining. But when its presented as fact, with apparent scientific back-up, as many of these are, then its just plain misleading the public.
