Well, if I ever work hard enough (doubtful) then i'll buy the DVD and then see if I still think its a "rip-off". Until then, I should probably keep my mouth shut

I own this DVD and would not class it a "rip-off" as the handling is certainly not something you would easily develop on your own simply knowing card warp.

However - The DVD itself/teaching method was not great IMHO! This is no reflection on the effect. But the explanation/talk through the moves is done so quickly and from quite a bizarre angle (perhaps this is because the trick itself is so angle proof, perhaps cannot be helped...!) that I'd barely worked out what was going on before the next move was happening. I understand you can use the pause facility but I still think taking it slow, repeating each move etc. would be a good idea.

One of the main things is passing the warp card from hand to hand or twisting it round in your hand - as you might imagine, hand position is *everything* in this effect, so when you've just finished a move, you're holding it in one particular way and they you're told to do something that would not be possible when holding the card like that... you then have to rewind and watch like a hawk for the casual turn-round etc...

Having said that, DRJ includes a force, an "in spectator's hand" move, and a restoration end piece - it's good to be given all necessary "tools"!

My Warp One DVD just arrived today. I agree with Farlsborough to some extent, the teaching is kinda fast, but I still think the DVD is FANTASTIC! I especially liked the "over the shoulder" perspective. This is not a rip-off, it's a masterpiece! The effect hits hard every time. I strongly recommend this effect!

I'm not sure why all the fuss about Warp One just being another variation of Card Warp. Heck, look at the multitude of variations for the Torn and Restored Card that have flooded the market, each one with a slightly different handling, but the same illusion.

Warp One is no different. It is David's brilliant new handling using just ONE card. I love pretty much all the variations currently available, and will soon be adding David's among those. All one has to do is take a new deck of cards, 'p.......e' a number of cards in the deck, and now you're ready to perform this for walkaround.

Wonderful job David. Hope you have more GEMS for us in the future.

anyone know of any good patter to put to this?

David says on the dvd he performs this straight off with no story, but I think this is a cop out and the folding session you need to go through certainly needs some space filler.

Anyone suggest anything good? Links would be amazing if anyone knows of a good story patter...was thinking of doing the 2 card version first.

I ask the folks to cheer, boo or wolfwhistle whenever they see the Queen's face which helps to focus their attention onto the playing card.

With regards to this effect being "a ripoff", I was given the DVD of this effect by a good friend of mine who said he didn't have time to learn it, so I can't comment on the value for money but it is a very strong visual close-up effect and definitely worth learning well, especially if you look around for those cheap souvenier playing cards that have bold colourful backs. I think it this a decent effect worth learning.

The dvd is great - the handling is unique and works as a great second phase to the 2 card, carp warp. Highly recommend.

I do feel cheated on the complete lack of any patter. Obviously this is down to your own spin and character you want to inject, but I always feel the creators patter is great to listen to.

No one can perform this trick without patter. Watching someone fold a card back and forth for a minute is boring. Even if you turn it into an elephant.
