invisible palm little question

Postby Miniolo » Mar 29th, '11, 09:24

I recently started to do invisible palm routine again that wayne houchin also performs

one problem when im not using a close up mat the card i put down on table sometimes shows the second card... NOw my question is whats the best way to place a Double on the table without it seperating

i use a slight bend in the cards downwards so with the edges to the table like an arch....

is there a better way ? should i bend them on the long way or the small side??

Has Wayne released this yet? I remember there being a demo of it on his website.

Time Magazines Person Of The Year 2006.

One of my pet tricks involves dropping a double on the table. I've figured out one sure thing in my many years performing this particular effect. That is, there is no sure way to make this work everytime without using rough and smooth, and I don't use rough and smooth.

I have found my chances of sucess are based on three dependantly independent aspects. 1st being the conditions of the cards, 2nd being the surface you are working on, 3rd how you 'drop' the cards to the table.

Starting with the third I've tried all sorts of methods using all sorts of different amounts of pressure. I have found what works best is holding the short edges of the card while my index, (pointer) finger applies slight pressure to the back of the card and then just kind of spring the card onto the table.

Cards that are a little older tend to work better.

As for the surface? I don't know what to say. Usually, if I am planning on using this trick I try the drop before the performance and see what happens. Often I will try the drop during a different effect when it doesn't really matter. Sometimes this is done while removing the cards from the deck and letting a card fall, (and see how it fairs). If I am not 'feeling' it so to speak I just omit the trick from the sequence.

One last thing. If I try dropping the card 20 minutes before performing, doesn't mean its going to work during the performance. Life is such fun sometimes.

Are you talking about the routine he performs on the True Astonishment set? (If not, then the below probably isn’t relevant...)

It's a nice routine. I notice in the teaching section he lays a double down from an Ascanio spread, which looks super-fair. However, I notice in the performance section he doesn’t use this actual method.

In my experiments with laying a double from an Ascanio spread I find it's more reliable to lay it while moving the spread of cards directly towards you, rather than from right to left as taught in this effect. It's more reliable, but not perfectly reliable still. The few times I've actually performed this I didn’t have the confidence to laydown in this way.

I'd be interested if anyone has any tips on the Ascanio laydown.

hmm yeah ascanio spread is really not my thing.. i saw 2 performances of wayne doing the invisible palm... and i noticed that he holds the cards when spectators in reach if there not he lays it down on the table.. also he uses a normal laydown instead of ascanio laydown...

i practiced invisible palm routine for a few days now... and noticed that if you keep it paralel to the floor/horizontal and release even pressure then they should stay together...:)
