Spirit Slates

Postby Heckler » Apr 5th, '11, 15:49

In 13 Steps (and in a book on spirit slates by William Robinson aka Chung Ling Soo) a method to create 'spirit' writing on a cleaned blackboard that is on the the spectators chair under their bottom is mentioned. Basically wondering if anyone has created the necessary writing implement to allow this to happen? I did find something called 'crazy chalk' on a magic supplier's website called Daytona that sounds similar(ish) but have no idea if this will work in the same way.

Don't want to tip the method or expose, but to those who are aware how this works I'm aware you can get part of the neccessary two parts from a chemist, but is it worth the effort to construct or is there a ready made 'writing implement' available?

Pehaps I am missing something here. So let me see if the routine is the one you are thinking of.

A chalkboard is (actually two) are shown to be blank. They are stacked and given to a spectator to sit on, hold, whatever and then at some point there is a message or prediction or something written on the boards?

If the above is what you are thinking, then you don't need fancy writting implements. What you need are spirit slates, available at your favourite magic dealer.

bmat... nope. The effect in Corinda is very different, and can be done with any slate.

It's one I've come back to and want to experiment with but, like Heckler, have yet to find the correct whatnots.

I'm keen to hear if anyone out there has the answer to his question.

Seems that the Crazy Chalk you mention will serve the purpose, but is a different 'stuff' to that mentioned in 13 Steps.

Think I'll try some myself.

Docc Hilford released something called Peyton's Slates (originally called Raven's Slates), which I think is similar (but not necessarily the same thing as in Corinda). Having seen how much the Crazy Chalk costs, I say try that first!

Sounds cool. Perhaps its time to dust off 13 Steps, except that its mentalism.
