Where do i go to learn beginners magic?

Postby Morpheus10 » Feb 22nd, '11, 10:19

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and have been interested in magic for most of my life. never managed to dedicate enough time to it to actually learn anything, but would love to start learning some really basic tricks. Maybe some card tricks or something really simple. If anyone knows the best place to learn that would be very helpful.

Morpheus :)

There's a lot of information already available on this forum. For example: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic11561.php. It's worth reading this first, then you'll be able to ask more specific questions.

Best of luck,
T.

Where do you live? How old are you? There are usually clubs and magic societies in certain areas.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

Yeh, I wouldn't join a magic club straight away actually. I think you need to find out about magic for yourself first, and find what you want to do, before people start to give you advice, ideas, etc...
Go to the library and borrow some books, or look on Amazon, if you want to buy something.

Thanks guys, I will check out the links and amazon. Really don't want to spend to much money until I get tricks under my sleeve. Sorry the punt!

What about ebooks, etc?

The Royal Road to card magic and a couple of decks of cards is a very good way to begin magic. If you take the time to learn most of that book you will have a great grounding in card magic.

No need to spend a lot of money, check out http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mark-Wilsons-Co ... 0762414553 - never mind a few tricks, with that you'll have a complete career in one book.

Mandrake's exactly right. Buy Mark Wilson's book and you'll have stage, close-up and kids magic at your fingertips. It's charmingly old-fashioned, but completely packed with golden nuggets of pure magic.

If you do not want to spend a lot of money and are near a Works they currently have a book that contains 8 small books called Practical Magic. It contains a wide selection of magic for beginers.

I'd go for Mandrake's suggestion and/or the practical magic book. Mark Wilsons book is huge, and full of great stuff.

You could start off by reading the stickies on this site
