In the pocket book test

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Banachek also has good one. He asks for a page number and turns to that page. He then removes his ring and sets it on the page. Starts sliding it across the book till told to stop then slides the ring down from that point till told to stop. At which point they can opt to have him move it or keep it there. They read a word inside the ring and are asked to open a sealed prediction which of course matchs. I really like this one because it seems more practical to me to use a borrowed book. All you need carry is a ring :)

Not to bring down this effect, as it is very good, but it's not literally any borrowed book... and there's a little control required to ensure proceedings run smoothly, which could be perceived as looking awkward

Once again thanks for the repliies. It is indeed hard to find the right one with so many different ones all with their pros and con.In my defence to Part-Timer.It may seem on these forums that I'm always looking for the next big thing but I'm not in with any magic comunity and I don't know where to start if I was to mention all the tricks I've bought over the years that are now in the drawer that I may not have purchased if I had other magi's opinions.

I'm thinking that I may skip some of these book test now and just *** short a page and make a r***le force.Only problem with that is that it wouldn't be repeatable.

I really like the pocket dictionary test in PMM but it requires two pocket dictionarys which are quite thick.Pocket space is defiently an issue there.Although I've always wanted to try that one since I saw it.

True that it cant be done with EVERY book. As for the handeling I've always found that it can be done very easly and has yet to arouse supposition from those I've performed it for. BUt you're right I realize its not what hes looking for.

I made up a crib for it. Jon was quite polite when I showed it to him...

I like the naked book test. A bit of memory work, but so strong when it hits. It is not a part of my regular set yet, but will be shortly. It is very strong impromptu stuff.

My plan is to combine it with a very simple book test as an opener, then tell them to go to any page and pick any word...

I have always loved book tests but never found the one for me. But the Naked Book Test comes closest.

I recall Nick Einhorn does a version of a book test using his business card, I think its in his lecture notes. Packs pretty small that way :)

No need to defend yourself, sir. I was really pointing out that you might find it useful to repeat the sort of exercise Robbie set out.

I used to buy things that ended up sat in storage, but over time, you will develop a better feel for what suits you. You will also learn to read between the lines with magic advertising! It's ages since I bought something that was completely useless to me. Well, that's my story and I am sticking to it (in case Mrs P-T is reading).

Nothing wrong with asking questions, but I think you actually have a good grasp of things, better than you perhaps realise, and breaking down what you want in the way Robbie did will help you.
