Ok, so it has taken me ages to get the hang of the needle through balloon - and I don't know why, because I'm not normally rubbish at magic (hold your opinions) but I think I was just missing something.
Anyway, I think I've got it now, and realised what I was doing wrong.

I now think though that I want to do a different trick where you spear two chosen cards on to a needle and thread them onto a ribbon - I think it is 'card manipulations' - I am going to check in a minute...
My question is, if I am using the needle for something else, i.e. putting it through a paper bag and a card, is that going to ruin the needle, so there is more friction, if so I'll need a separate needle for each effect, right?

I might get a spare needle anyway, but just wondering if that would ruin it, because I've found the needle through balloon is a delicate thing to be getting right, every time, or am is this just me?

I would have thought that cutting through papaer would take the edge off your needle and that in turn would put the balloon at risk.

I have been doing the balloon trick for a while now and on Sunday for the first time I burst a balloon. No idea what I did wrong.

Putting the needle through something like a paper bag, or cardstock should not pose a problem. However (there is always an 'however') You want to be sure to 'clean' the needle before using it to penetrate the balloon. I am going to assume you understand what I mean by 'clean'. The other method would be purchase the special needle wand (which is a case for the needle) and after going through the bag or cards put the needle in the wand and that will prep the needle for going through the balloon.
