Well, I'm very much enjoying this app.

Agent488, I'd suggest that if your spec is guessing the solution, then you're presenting it all wrong. Who cares if the method is what I guessed it would be - I definitely can't write myself an iPhone app for less than 59p.

Agree that a customisable home screen would make it even sweeter, but that really is such a small point - it neither gives away the solution, or prevents you from achieving the same result as actually having a customisable screen.

Can you give us a run down of the effect. I didn't see an explaination on the App page itself & I'm not buying something before I know what the effect is.

Basic flow (from Spec's perspective)

Magi to Spec:
I'd love to show you some card magic, but I don't have any cards on me... Actually, I have a deck in my phone!

Key up app.

Hand phone to spectator, and look away - all 52 cards can be flicked through on screen by spec. They either find one, or think of one and then locate it. They press it to focus it on the screen, and focus their attention on it. Once they have it visualised, they click to exit the app - returning the phone to the homescreen.

Have the phone handed to you (they can had it face down if you like), and as you turn back round, you maintain eye contact with the spec as you receive the phone and discard it to one side on the table (basically, putting it out the way). It's important to note here, you do not look away from their eyes.

You can complete the effect however you wish from here - but the basic ending is having the spec visualise their card in their hand as you "read them" and reveal their card.

There is a second feature on the app using a bunch of items (watch / spectacles / coin / ticket stub / tophat / etc) with which you can follow the same routine.

I actually had a look at this the other day while flicking through, I was skeptical as i believe people are very wary when it comes to technology (as they should be) but for 50-something-p i might give it a go thanks for the review

I completely understand the issue of using mobile phones to perform magic - this is no replacement for performing "old-skool" style, but it's a very powerful little routine... simple and direct

Mate, I wouldn't even show it to anyone. I've deleted it.

Problem is, that spectators aren't that dumb. If you are using a small hand held computer to do a trick, a retard would be able to figure out the computer is giving you the card somehow. 2 second look at screen and they see it.

I'm glad you nad your audiences like it. But I think it's very weak.

I'm glad your audience don't think doing magic on an iphone is suspicious and you get mileage out of it.

I downloaded the app out of curiosity (and because I'm a fan of Andy Nyman, and I think somehow, some way I was hypnotized into freely handing him money for his products), and while I agree with grant that it's not a replacement, it is a pretty cool little app.

I can definitely see a place for it in a casual situation, just for fun. I would certainly never hand them the phone, have them pick something, and take it back. You don't need to have the phone in hand to do the business, so what's the harm in having them make the selection and put the phone down on the table?

While it is a clever app, it isn't as useful to a magician as some other magical iPhone apps - iForce is my favourite.

I agree the lack of customisable home screen is a major omission (although Andy has indicated this is to come).

My biggest concern is that this app is becoming well known to lay people already. Jonathan Ross tweeted about it to all his followers on Twitter (950,000 people!).

you could do this method if you forgot to bring your decks

I had a spec say to me "the phone must have shown you".

So I just pulled an ID and said "So how did the phone tell my real deck of cards?".

There has been an update to the app, and you can customize the home screen, now.
