Paul Daniels "pick a number" effect

Postby grant_m23 » May 12th, '11, 15:41

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction for the name of an effect I recently saw Paul Daniels perform.

The routine was very simple... white board with a bunch of numbers written on them (6 in total: ranging from 3 - 6 digits in length). Moving through one number at a time, audience members selected one of that numbers digits. The responses were recorded to the side, creating a new set of numbers. This continued until all the numbers had been called out. When added top to bottom, they created a new single number. There's something significant about this number - I won't ruin the surprise if you've never seen this effect, but you''ll know what I mean if you have.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

It's an old effect. Dig around and you'll find it. Start with Terri Rogers.

Check out Marc Paul’s Fleetwood Notes reviewed at – http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic35176.php

There’s a version in there called Summing Up which I used at Christmas and it worked very well indeed.
