Tommy Wonders 2 cup routine

Postby Tommy Magic » May 8th, '11, 12:41

I was given a set of cups and balls for Christmas, and I've been working on this routine with the help of Tommys Books of Wonder. Just making the props takes days! So I've been working on it for nearly 5 months (on and off as I unfortunately have a day job, but many hours per week have been put in!) and I'm nearly there with my version of it - almost ready to put it into my parlour show for paid gigs. I'd like to 'Talk Magic' about the detail of this routine (and my version / interpretation of it), and all the difficulties I've had, things I've learnt, bits I've added / taken away etc but need someone to talk to who has ideally learnt this routine as well, but of course not in an open forum - has anyone else out there bothered to make all the bits and bobs required to learn this routine and now use it professionally or otherwise?

Hi Tommy

Personally I'd not worry at all about what magicians think of your presentation. It's a lay audience that you will be performing to so if it were me I'd get a few friends together and perform it a few times and see what they think.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

I just seems weird that it's revered as being the best two cup routine by so many, but is so rarely performed these days. I guess making the knit bag and the pompom puts people off! (Although even Tommy admits that his Mum knitted the bag for him!).
That and the fact that TW's performance of the routine is so flawless - how can one improve on perfection?! I guess the answer is that you can't, but you can be good in your own way and somehow make it your own with enough time and effort. Dat - a few close friends have seen the routine and they really like it, so I think what I need next is some other friends who I'm less familiar with to give me some honest feedback, and Dr Todd, if the verdict is good I'll see if I can make a vid for you to see the routine...
It's been posted a load before, but in case anyone is reading this and is and hasn't seen Tommy Wonder in action here it is again:
