Hugo Shelley's Sixth Sense

I was recently given this as a present (I can't afford to buy it at £145!) and it works really well. I use it with a PK ring, rather than the included magnetic pound coin, and the detection range is very good. The PK ring looking like a wedding ring and so lets you pitch it as a routine about "emotional connections" rather than just "find a coin". This plays very nicely.

However when it is "detecting" there is a noticeable humming sound from the unit. In a noisy pub environment this isn't a problem, but in other situations it could be a bit of a giveaway. Has anyone else used Sixth Sense and do they all make this noise, or is it just mine?

I dislike the item as a whole, but was sitting in Davenports when somebody who has just bought one was talking through it etc, going over it with Paul, and he performed it to me, several times and I never heard a thing.
Bear in mind that Davenports is eerily quiet! I would certainly go and have a word with the guys in there, they know their stuff about it.

Mine is really noisy too. Are they all noisy or is my faulty? It'd be really useful to know. Of course, I can just use it in noisy environments but after paying £145 I'd really like to be able to use it anywhere.

I've been studying Prevaricator too so I'm not intending to rely solely on the gadget, but that's beside the point really. If it's faulty I want to get a replacement; if it's not then I don't want to have a wasted trip to Davenports.

Mine's really quiet. I think sometimes things seem louder to us because we know it's there, we know what it is, we know when to expect it and because we're feeling guilty about it.

Either that or some are noisier than others.
